LITTLE KNOWN SECRETS TO MAXIMUM SUCCESS

Every real estate agent today is looking for the secrets to making their business more successful. In my quest to share with others and on the heels of publishing my new book I am starting a series of insider tips of highly successful real estate agents.

It's almost a new year and how many of you have developed a business plan for 2011? Maybe 10%? The latest statistics tell us 10% of real estate agents today are doing 90% of the business. Do you know why?....Here it is..... those agents stay consistent with their goals and they FOCUS on what they want to achieve.

Insider Tip: You Get What You Focus On". So simple and so true.   If you set a goal for yourself such as  you will go on 4 appointments a week and you will list 2 of those appointments and then you focus on that goal. Guess what? You will. That is because when you plant a thought in your brain and you think about it constantly, your brain has no other choice but to act on what you are thinking about. It works that way with every thought you have. An easy way to relate to that statement is using food as an example. When most people think about chocolate for instance, they begin to want it, as you continue thinking and desiring the chocolate ...what happens? You know the answer.  You begin to finds ways to get that chocolate. You hunt for it in your pantry or you jump in your car and drive to the nearest store to buy that candy bar. If the desire is stong enough, you will stop at nothing to satisfy the urge to get what you want.    AH HA!

Since the practice of Real Estate is a little harder than fulfilling the desire for a 65 cent candy bar, I use reminders so I don't get sidetracked with day to day muckty muck that is easy to get caught up in. Those reminders are note cards posted in my office on my computer, on my bathroom mirror and in my car that tell me over and over every time I read them, what I want to achieve per month. Mine read like this: I will sell 4 homes per month. I will make $20,000 per month. I will weigh 135 pounds, and the most important, I will serve others and be the best I can be. That is my simple version and it contains the most important items on my Business Plan. The notecards make it easy to take a quick glance at wherever I am wanting to accomplish. It is the daily brain food that tells me,  this is my ultimate goal. I have practiced this method for the last 17 years and as any of the rest of you know that has done this...IT WORKS!

As you continue building on the simple version of your Business plan, you can include the GCI (gross commission income) you desire for the year, how many buyers and seller you will need to contact to make the amount of appointments needed for the desired closings, daily lead generating activities, prospecting calls, and marketing pieces. It should include every activity needed to be done on a daily and monthly basis to accomplish the goals you set  for yourself in the coming year. I think it is best to keep the BP written on one sheet of paper in an easy to read format so you can glance at quickly every day. If you are very detail oriented have at it with as much detail as you like.
