Yes, you read that right! The Las Vegas area is expecting some freezing nights with possible rain and snow between tonight and new years.
There are many new homeowners that have bought a home here in Las Vegas and maybe unaware that Vegas nights can dip to freezing temperatures this time of year, and we occasionally get snow in the valley which can lead to pipes breaking and pool pumps breaking.
The Northwest Las Vegas area and North Las Vegas areas tend to get colder as they are closer to the base of the mountains. If you live in the Northwest area up around Lone Mountain and Providence you can almost expect to get at least a dusting of snow once a year here.
Also, bring your pets inside overnight as they are most likely not accustomed to the upcoming cold temperatures.
Take a walk around the outside of your home and check for any exposed pipes.
Gather up some old blankets and cover them or if you can afford to buy an insulated cover you may try that.
Check with your pool guy or pool store on this, but you typically want to make sure your pool pump is set to automatically come BEFORE the temperature dips to freezing, so maybe it gets set to automatically come on at 40,,,again consult with a professional on that.
These tips may help avoid future problems, but there is no guarantee when dealing with mother nature!
Sometimes a bit of preparation can save on expenses later on.
Stay warm and Have a Happy New Year!
