Continuing education in real estate

As all real estate agents know,  every 2 years we must complete at least 24 hours of continuing education courses.

Here in Arizona, the title companies, loan officers and inspection companies offer some great courses - some with very valid, current content.

Because of time contraints, I chose to take my classes on line.

Here's how I see it:

It takes me about an hour to shower, put on makeup, dry my hair, etc.

Then, it's a 15 to 30 minute drive to attend the classes which must be at least 3 hours in length.

While the networking is great and there is interaction between the instructor and the students, that's up to 5 hours out of my day.

By taking the classes on line, I sit in the comfort of my own home, and study the material at my own pace.

What I did this year, I went to the test first and took it.  After taking the test, you will be "graded" and the correct answers will be highlighted.

I then studied the incorrect answers and the material, where appropriate, and retook the test.

And I'm still in my pajamas!!

So, this worked for me.

I'm doing all of my classes this weekend so I can start the year off fresh.

What are you doing for your CE classes this year?

Here in PA they started requiring loan officers be licensed. So I was completely new to the whole continuing education and all of that stuff. But prior to being licensed they required 20 hours of education and one of the options was online and I agree it was great. I got to do it on my owntime instead of trying to schedule it.

Traci, glad I could help with a little reminder.

Jason, as smart as YOU are, you'd probably ace the tests which were pretty much the same as the original licensing test 4 years ago.  I think you learn best by reading, at least by the contents of YOUR great blogs!!!!

Pat, it's all about time management.  I took these classes at a "down time" in either doing BPO's or working with clients, so the "timing" was perfect for me.

WTG Andres, they just required LO's to be licensed here in AZ.  I think that anything that REQUIRES additional learning is never a bad thing.

I like the CE classes that actually help my future clients. In CO we have it every three years...but you take them slowly.

How many hours do you need in CO, Jeffrey?  And, I so agree, practical usage of knowledge is so much better than just sitting in front of the computer - it was all about time management for me this year.

If you have to do CE on line is the way to go.  I've seldom found anything in CE of value, so I skip the material and go directly to the test.  If you've been in the business a while, you should be able to pass easily.  I usually take just a couple of hours to finish my 8 hours of manditory CE for South Carolina.  Also, I fit it in between doing something productive.

Julie, the only classes I take online are the CE classes that count as electives. I also use this slightly slower time of year to chase the designation courses, although this spring few are offered. I have taken classes on line, ususally doing them late at night when it's quieter. Happy New Year

I do a combination myself. I have decided that I am going to start earning real estate designations to learn more about the real estate and obtain the CE that I need. Hence, I am in the middle of obtaining ABR via online. Yes, I have taken physical classes just to network. Much success to everyone.

Juli, this last time around I did my CE (24 Hours) by correspondence. It was easier doing it at home, but I do think classroom interaction is a better way to learn the material.

Wow --- here in PA we only need 14 hours every 2 years. I don't think that's enough.

I also love taking classes online, at my own pace.

Hi Juli - I just completed my final course online yesterday morning.  Up here in Ontario, Canada we are required to complete 24 credits every 2 years as well.  I do all my courses online for many of the same reasons stated above.  As for networking and socializing with other agents;   that just boggles my mind!  They're in the same town as you so they'll not be referring to you or listing or buying with you, so why would you spend hours with these people?  That was the very first thing I was taught:  Don't socialize or mingle with other Reators!

Congrats on the feature BTW

LOL, Susan, that's exactly why I hardly ever attend any of the bi-weekly realtor® caravan tours and such.  But, the CE classes are for commercial agents and appraisals as well as agents.  Also, the speakers are sometimes the city movers and shakers - politicians, planners, CPA's, attorneys, etc.  So, it's not all about the agents.

Juli -  I would probably attend if there were any city movers and shakers, etc.  Up here it is just agents!  Enjoy the next one :o)

Good Afternoon All,

As a new Realtor here in Texas, I wanted to share a great online site for our continuing education.  I completed all of my pre-licensing classes in 2 weeks online and passed my exam the first time.  It is a very user friendly site.

www.statece.com/ezlicense .  They offer a 25% discount on all courses as well as 100% price match guarentee.  They also offer courses in mortgage, insurance, home inspection with quite a few others.

I hope this helps to anyone looking for online courses.  Have a great day,

Josh

I completely agree ... I get better quality education online, I am not "locked" in the classroom and told if I go to the restroom outside of their scheduled breaks I wasted my money, and can drink my coffee in the comfort of my home instead of hard chairs in a drafty room, or worse, no ventilation at all with Peeps bumping my elbow.

This is sooooooooooo much better !!!!
