We've Come A LONG Way in Real Estate

We've Come A LONG Way in Real Estate in Southern New Hampshire.

Does anyone remember in the 80's when there was a big book that was disseminated to the real estate agent/office once a month from the multiple listing service.

This book was printed & published in black and white AND was only available to you if you were part of MLS. It was the only thing available for searching for the "perfect" home for your buyer.

The only hitch was that the book was a month old.  If someone happened to be driving around the neighborhood and saw the sign, bought the house, then it was SOLD before the book came out!  In other words, if you had a brand new listing that came out at the beginning of the month when the book had already been published, your seller had to wait a month before they actually got some showings!

Oh, if you were considered a "good" agent, you would get on the phone and call all around to the other offices and tell them about your new listing that just hit the market. Forget about working remotely - no computers, no internet, no remote internet phone service, no internet data exchange programs... you had to be in the office.

The 80's had certainly come a long way from the days of horse and buggy, or the times when there were few choices... if your neighbor had a house to sell and you needed one, then that was it!

Selling real estate was NEVER "ROCKET SCIENCE," and the customer/client needed you for very different reasons!

Today, real estate is more like rocket science because you must be able to optimize your website, post video tours to YouTube, write a quick blog on your blackberry which is quickly uploaded to posterous and propogated to all of your individual blog sites.  You have to be quick with getting back to consumers or they'll go to someone else because there is no loyalty like the "old days," and they'd rather just go around the agent altogether.

They tolerate us because we have the listing or know the neighborhood, but they still think of us like a used car salesperson.

Not only do we need to understand contract law, work well with people, know all the inventory in all towns that is currently on the market, understand financing, have a wealth of vendor knowledge, but now we have to be a rocket scientist!

OH, I AM KIDDING... We don't have to be a Rocket Scientist, we just feel like that sometimes.

It is my intention to educate the general public to the plethora of knowledge that the professional real estate agent can provide.

Although we are not rocket scientists, we are well educated people who are ready, willing, and always able to help lend a hand to buyers and sellers.

In some ways, the days of horse and buggy was less complicated.  The days of black and white mls books (80s in particular) were also far less complicated.

In some ways this social networking, internet data exchange, and everything else under the sun that we need to be an expert at has left us all wondering .... what's next?

Folks, what's next is that we not only meet our clients expectations but we exceed them and blow their mind by all the added service benefits they will get by working with us.

Let's make it a great year.... It's a year to LAUNCH your new career!

If you are an agent in Southern New Hampshire looking for a company that can provide you with the services and plethora of knowledge you need to exceed your clients expectation in 2011, call me!

LAUNCH your career - Not Your ROCKET :-)

Lori, this is an educational blog for me. I came to America in the 80s and am still learning something new everyday.  The book was the big thing back them I assume.

Well, technology is the way to go and it's the thing that can get us into trouble. We just have to appreciate technology and use it wisely and to our advantage.

Thanks for sharing and good luck!

Lori, never sold from the book, but purchased from it.  Glad we no longer have it, but now with the Internet, I sometimes feel that we are just a big walking key.

Lori, Sad to admit, but, I do remember the books!  We received them every two weeks, here.  We didn't even have fax machines when I began my real estate career.  We had to drive the contract, with the check, to the listing agent, as soon as possible!

With zipforms online, efax, email, blogging, websites and other tech tools, it is easier to get a handle on our business.  Maybe, I should say, more convenient. Sometimes, the rules are not followed and you just have to hope that things move forward, properly. I have heard that there are more testers out and about now. Face to face, is still the most powerful tool that we have.  You need to sell yourself, to sell the product:
