the Big Baby!

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Residential

As the snow falls all over the east coast, and New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Hartford enter into, yet another, Winter Wonderland my mind wanders off in several directions at once:

* I am SO done with snow.  Global warming, my ass!

* I have several friends who are flying to the east coast this morning... oops, correction... WERE flying to the east coast this morning. (I know, I know... many of you have trouble believing that I actually HAVE several friends... let's call them acquaintances.)

* Today's forecast in Hawaii:

* Philadelphia has had over 60 inches of snow this year, and there are 2 more months of winter left (Sorry, Philly).

* Why, exactly, do they have a braille keyboard on the drive-up ATM?  Really?  Really!?

* My wife's nursery school class has to have handicap accessible toilets according to the American Disability Act. (her room is in the basement, down about 18 non-handicap accessible stairs... and there is no elevator!)

* Why are your keys ALWAYS in the last place that you look? (the freezer, really?  how the heck did they get in there?)

* Does push ever really come to shove?

* My family gene pool has baby ruth's floating in it. (at least I think they're baby ruth's).

* And speaking of Babe Ruth... how on earth did a nickname like that get started??  The great Bambino?  He seemed to wear it with pride... (The Big Baby!?  that's what we used to call the kid that ran home from the game, crying his eyes out, and taking his ball with him.   Okay, okay... it was me, but that's what they used to call me!)

* Okay... maybe this will make you feel better after all... today's forecast in Fairbanks, Alaska:

(266  -18)
let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

I am very thankful we've escaped so much of the snow that has hit the East Coast. We've had a cold, but not too snowy, winter.

After reading Hawaii's wonderful forecast, I felt like hopping on to Orbitz or Travelocity and booking a ticket.

Do you suppose that bad weather makes a bad attitude? It's snowing, again. Winter has definitely lost it's charm.

Closing in on 500,000? Larry's keeping track for you!

Wayne - if you're not shovelling snow, how do you get your exercise?

Gay - you're a good person to help out at the local shelter.  As my mother says..."You're buidling yourself a seat in heaven".

Glenn - brilliant! ... a handicapped bathroom at the top of a 2500 foot climb with out a bit of paved trail... government at it's best.

Larry - you're definitely the first... you noticed before I did... I thought it might have happened, and I'd missed it (when I saw your comment).  The congrats are a bit premaure (you ARE the first)... but much appreciated... Thanks... I definitely look good in red.

Kim - well, then my job here is done.

Christine - if you can get that umbrella over Phil's head... we'd much appreciate it.

Judy - it is, isn't it?

Joy - global warming, climate change, planet partitioning... I dunno... it's freaking crazy.

Chris Ann - I know... I'm really not complaing about a few inches, when New York got 19 last night.

Craig - he who hesitates to look before he leaps is lost!!

Jason - I know... what slows me down are those high air fares!

Leslie - good to have Larry watching out for me, isn't it?

Alan,

Cute post.  Years ago, like 1978 when we moved to Naples, FL from NJ, my father sold commercial real estate. He put ads in the Wall Street Journal during the coldest months advertising FIRST the daily temperature in Naples.

Sure enough, lots of phone calls about folks fed up and ready to move after hearing that we were in the pool relaxing, while they were in snowdrifts!!!

All the best, Michelle

Hey Alan, I'm glad I am not the only one going a little stir crazy....  Isn't Hawaii one of those reciprocal states for us here in Illinios??  Where we can get a license to sell property there as well... No?? Are you sure.

"* I am SO done with snow.  Global warming, my ass!"  You should come to Colorado, the mountains are finally getting snow but very little down here in the Denver metro area.  It's uncanny.

Alan, we had to shovel another 8 inches this morning. I just got in from work to hear the news say we have another storm coming details at 10:00. They claim it’s the coldest year in Pa. since 1994. Go figure, that’s the year we bought our first house here.

Alan, I feel your pain!  Our weather in Mission Viejo was terrible today.  It was 77 degrees, but, it will cool down a bit tomorrow.  This may be our coldest winter in several years.  I may need a sweater tonight when I walk the dog.  Best wishes.

Mellissa - no you dasn't

Michelle - clever marketing

Kimberly - if it's not, it SHOULD be.

Jason - I know.. Denver, Boulder... you guys get plenty of snow, too... but then the next day it's sunny and 60°, and the snow is gone.

Denise - I couldn't do that to a nice plaid

Mary - I know... I'll make a reservation.

Suesan - I feel your pain.

Richard - not sure why you're quoting it here, but hardly "unknown"...  a George Gershwin tune, with Ira Gershwin lyrics.  One of my personal faves.

I found it on your Zillow Profile (About Alan May).  I just wanted to make sure that you saw it.  I think that I actually have some Piano Sheet Music by George Gershwin up in our closet.  Best wishes again, Richard

Alan, I am reading this very late in the day...actually early in the next day. Don't know what made all these thoughts come together in your post, but I got a good laugh out of them. Thanks! And, yes...I'm sick of snow, too. The walls of snow along on either side of our front walk are about 4 1/2 feet high! No where to put any more snow. Hope it doesn't come to that.

Alan - I used to, many years ago, fly the traffic guy around Anchorage, Alaska for alocal radio station.  One of his tricks was to hand the pilot the microphone for a weather report.  He always got a laugh out of hearing the pilot stammer and stutter their way through the impromptu report.  He tried that on me but I was ready.  I gave the local weather, cold and colder, and then went on to give the weather in Hawaii and the Caribbean.  Thanks for the blog.

Poor Al Gore.  He takes a beating every winter!  Love these insights Alan.  I too, am so over this winter.  WTH???  And I beg to differ, in an Italian family push always comes to shove and then some!  Just saying....

Nina - I can empathize.

Steve - kinda like George Carlin's old hippy dippy weather... "tonight's forcast... DARK!!! Followed by intermittent light in the morning."

Susan - LOL... well, then it's your family that has introduced Push to Shove!!
