Laramie, Wyoming. We have some culture, really - we do!  The challenge of this little just for fun series . . .

Can You Find It ?!

If you haven't been to - or live in - Laramie, Wyoming,  it won't be easy to do the  "Can You Find It?"  part of this challenge.  However,  I  hope  that  far  away  visitors  can  still  enjoy   the   pictures!

Abe Lincoln Bust by Robert Russin

Apparently I've been aware of this GIANT Lincoln head my whole life.  My parents tell me that as a two year old I used to shout "Pinkon, Pinkon" as we frequently made the round trip from Laramie to Torrington and back - many years ago.  Of course that was when the monument was still on the actual  Lincoln Highway.   To read more about how and why they moved the monument you can go to:

Hi Brenda - It appears that Abraham Lincoln came down from Sherman Summit to stand next to I-80 to be closer to people.  Guess he got lonely up at the pass and wanted more company.  Thanks for the blog.  By the way, congratulations on finishing the 31 day challenge.

Brenda, I knew there were some interesting stories about casting and placing and moving the statue.Since I work on referrals to Mexico, I thought I would mention the connection that the monument has to Mexico. Robert I. Russin cast it in bronze and the work was done in Mexico City. When the stature was shipped here it was guarded by the Mexican army due to fears that it might be stolen.

Brenda--Pinkon as in Pink One?  You used to get excited to go see the pink statue?  Abe does look good in pink.  Amazing how many statues there are in Laramie, Wyoming!

Hi Pat!  I have been amazed at the number of them as well.  I think I'm almost to the end!

Hi Again Gloria!  It is funny the little stories linked with this one.  On one of the attached sites, other people left comments and one indicated he remembered driving by this all the time as a kid, too.  Funny what sticks in our memories!
