Anchorage PropertySEO Tip: Don't Use the Term "CLICK HERE" For Anything!

I always want to prefice my blogs by saying, yes, maybe you knew about this for years...
but many don't. This blog is for you.

I see it everywhere. On every type of website, blog, email, comment, script, etc... the phrase "click here" with either the here hyperlinked or the entire phrase linked to where ever the author wanted the user to go. The problem with this is, this brands that URL with the term "here" or "click here". This means nothing to your site or blog or whatever it is you are trying to optimize.

If you Google the phrase "click here" you will notice the first result to come up is the Adobe Reader. Not because "click here" is one of Adobe's keywords but because it's been linked to that domain on more sites than any other.

If you Google the word "here" the two top results go to a gay tv site and here.org which is also an entertainment site. (Smart marketing though if you ask me!)

But you don't want your site to be known for the words "click here". You want to brand them with your major keywords in your site. If you want users to click a specific phrase or title consider wording it this way:

"For more information, visit our Alaska property buyers page"

This not only tells the user where they will be going but brands that phrase to the url or website address.

Steven Graham usually talks about this in one of his Webinars which are highly educational if you get a chance to sit in on one.

So remember, don't hyperlink your domain or url to any phrase that people would not actually be searching for. This also applies to your actual domain. Don't tell people click here > www.alaskapropertyseller.com and hyperlink the actual domain because few are ever going to search for that exactly - (with the www. and no spaces between the words, in case your domain is still a keyword) This is for your blog, your website, your signature, your comments, anywhere you are going to have a link directing users or search engines to a specific URL.

Tammy, well, I'm one of the ones who obviously wasn't in the know!  I stopped using click here, but haven't been smart about what I replaced it with.  Back to the drawing board.  And thanks - makes perfect sense.  DUH!!!

I know this is an older post but it's a Great post! My clients do not do much of their own posting with links, but when I see them do the old "Click Here" I have to get on them! :-)  Sometimes we all need a refresher to clean up our posts! Thanks!
