Air Conditioning Check Up in Cary: It is almost time!

By

Spring comes early in Cary, NC, and the best time to check the air conditioning equipment is before we need it.

Yes, it is cold and the air conditioner is in hibernation.  Now.  It won't last.
When those first 90 degree days roll around with high humidity, it isn't a great plan to hit the thermostat and pray for cool air.
That is when the HVAC contractors get real busy, and are hard to track down.

We know that we have an upstairs unit that just didn't really make it through the season last year.  As soon as we get to a steady 60 degrees, I'll have the guys from Matson Mechanical for a check up.  And it is 17 years old, so it just might be time to put something new, shiny, and more efficient in place.  We won't put any significant money into the old unit.

These photos are from an AC unit check they did for a client last spring:

AC Freon Leak Detector..Corroded Air Conditioner Condensor

The inside of the air handler showed rust and corrosion in many places, and significantly at the bottom of the condenser coil.  And when Tommy put the probe down there, the gauge went off like a Geiger Counter, showing several Freon leaks.
And the Seller paid most of the tab for a new furnace and air conditioner for my clients.

You can contact the good folks at Matson Mechanical at 919-469-3304.  I recommend them for all your heating and cooling needs.

We are very used to scenes like the snow covered units your showed. Great post. Something for all of us to think about. We need experts all around us. We can't possibly be everything to our clients. But we can certainly know which experts to call in.

Mike very good post, so many people do not have their units serviced unless there is something wrong with them.  An ounce of prevention is woth a pound of cure...or something like that, right?

Randy,

I like to try contractors out on my own home before I recommend them.  I have been using Matsons for 8 years now.  They pass the test with flying colors.

Carla,

LOL

Shawna,

Thanks.  Yes, or "A stitich in time saves nine."  With a little maintenance along the way, folks could stretch the life of their HVAC equipment.

My A/c units are also 17 years old.  That is why I have a home warranty

Jim,

Yeah, no home warranty here.  But I will get to select my installer and equipment.

Pretty funny that you would make that service call with all the snow on the unit.  But better now then when its sweltering.

Hi Mike, you hit the magic number.  Make sure it is 60 degress plus (65 is even a bit safer) for at least 24 hours before you fire up that a/c unit.

Steve,

I had to go to the archives for that photo.  It is from 12/26/2010.

We hit 72 degrees last Tuesday.

Dale,

I'm looking for the sweet spot in weather when the techs aren't busy.  65-75 is just about perfect.
