It's the end of an era for this historic building in Jackson Hole, and the start of a new one. The Roundup building, as it has come to be known, was originally built in 1947 as a small retail store. In 1980, the original 1,750 square foot building was enlarged to over 12,000 square feet. The original structure was retained, and a new building was added on to the back of the first building.
One tenant occupied the building for the virtually all of its life: The Roundup. The Roundup sold cowboy boots and hats, and for the last 30 years, lots of postcards and tourist-oriented Western themed kitsch. Alas, all things come to an end. The Roundup's lease expired at the end of 2008, and the family that had owned the building all those years sold to an investor. The economy ground to a halt, and that investor decided not to pursue his plans of a remodel, instead reselling the building.
That new owner takes title to the building tomorrow, and plans to restore the building. It will be renamed Wort Plaza, reflecting the grand historic Wort Hotel directly across the street. New tenants are negotiating terms in the space, which should be open for business this summer.
And so a new era begins!
I'm proud to have brokered the sale of this building twice, and am working closely with the new owner to fill it with new, upscale tenants. We look forward to showing off the newly revitalized building, and see it full of happy vacationers and local shoppers!
