It Is Not The Miles Traveled...

Does this happen to you? Do you ever see something that so engages your imagination that later when you read something else you connect them in some way? This is what happened to me. First, I love cars, especially the gorgeous classic ones. Some time ago, one appeared on the highway as I was driving north from Santa Fe to Taos. She was too beautiful to let the moment get away at 60 mph. I made this moving portrait. You see, she reminded of my 1941 Ford which did get away many years ago. Then, for some uncanny reason, when I read these amazing words tonight by Albert Bandura, I remembered the car. Here is what he said about traveling... at age 80.

"It is not the miles traveled but the amount of tread remaining that is important. When I last checked, I still have too much tread to gear down or to conclude this engaging Odyssey."

This is how I feel about living in Santa Fe and working in our new landscape of real estate. It is not about the market or the buyers or the sellers or what ever happened today. It is all about the tread remaining. What do you think?

Emily - I best ever trip was to Santa Fe....  my husband went white river rafting with my 2 older sons, and he thought I would stay in the room the whole day wth my 2 year old. WRONG! I drove back into the hills to a wonderful store selling antique rugs.... and then surprised him with it when we got home! Ha! Still love it.. SO many lovely memories. This was a very nice post!  Best, Gay

Emily, A great stretch of road between Santa Fe and Taos and what a beauty of a car.  Great that you enjoy old cars!

Yes life should be about living in the moment, not too much in the past and definitely looking forward to burning some tread!

Great "high speed" photo!

Emily love the quote and the words are so true.

By the way the very first car that my family had when we came from the Azores in 1960, was a 1951 Chevrolet DeSoto.  It looked a lot like the car in your picture except that it was a dark gray.

Emily:  We've never made it down your way ... but you're most definitely on our travel agenda.  And as far as the car goes.  Wow!  A stunning view, for sure!  My wife is the big car fanatic in our house.  She especially loves the pre-war and WWII-era of cars. The doors that opened up backwards.  The loop-pulls above the door to help passengers out.  The running boards.  Just more "romantic" she says.  She would have loved this one ... so thanks for the pic.  I'm passing it on!

Deborah, I think we all have the tread and experience for this new normal. Thank you!

Kate, tread works!

Christa, thank you, I love cars with a story.

Chirag, moving cars like are market can be challenging but worth being on the road with them.

Gay, ok, now when did you say you were coming back???

Gloria, for some reason our 401 year old community has a lot of "moving" classic cars on our roads. I'll keep posted on my high speed images.

George, I'm still doing research on the car... it turned off without my getting a second look. Thanks for the tip on a Chevrolet DeSoto...I'll check it out.

Mike, thank you! You team looks they have a lot of tread!

Gene, I have some homework to do to find you an image of one of those rare 1941 2-Door Coupe's Ford stopped making after Pearl Harbor.

Judith, we all have so much to be positive about in our lives. Thanks for appreciating this story.
