ARSENIC & OLD LACE

Arsenic and Old Lace is one of those Broadway stage plays that has been around for decades.

Legitimate theaters, college drama classes, even high school senior play groups have staged the play time and time again, and it all but assures a big box office.

The Dallas Theater Center will be running its version of the Joseph Kesselring classic at the Kalita Humpherys Theater until March 13th.

Directed by Scott Schwartz, it stars Broadway legends Betty Buckley and Tovah Feldshun.

Tauted as "a game of old maid to die for," Arsenic & Old Lace is a comedic mystery, and it's one the entire family can both understand and enjoy.

Arsenic and Old Lace was written in 1939.  The play opened on January 10, 1941, then moved to Broadway's famous Hudson Theater in September 1943.

It enjoyed a long run of almost 1,500 performances.  Of the twelve plays written by Joseph Kesselring, Arsenic and Old Lace was his most successful.

It became even better known through the film adaptation starring Cary Grant.

Tickets start at $15 each with the most expensive being $85, and can be ordered through the on line box office or by phoning 214 880-0202.

The theater was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and seats an audience of approximately 485, consequently there are no poor seats in the house.

Ticket price is really a function of the relationship of the seat's closeness to the stage.

Steve, thanks for passing that along.  Patty and I plan to go this week.  I haven't been in that theater since I was in college more than 40 years ago.  I always loved the architecture.  It was so different from anything a boy from Galveston had ever seen.
