Design To Market

It's Sunday night and I am fortunate enough to look forward to my work week.  Over 7 years ago I was bit by the entrepreneurial bug and started Design To Market.  We have been staging Cincinnati homes for over 7 years and at last count have staged over 1,000 homes.  I love what I do and I love what it lets me do!  Tonight I just made my 55th loan to Kiva.  According to Kiva's website they:

"empower individuals to lend to an entrepreneur across the globe. By combining microfinance with the Internet, Kiva is creating a global community of people connected through lending."

Thanks to my friend Michelle Minch with Moving Mountains Design who told me about Kiva's great work several years ago, I have been supporting entrepreneurs all over the globe with a consistent stream of small loans to entrepreneurs in countries where it is tough to run businesses because of limited access to capital.  Last month I even added the US as a country where I am supporting entrepreneurs through Kiva.  The only return a lender gets is the satisfaction that they are helping a fellow small business owners and the assurance that there is a 95% chance that the loan will be paid back and that it can be reloaned to someone else.  In my book that is a great return!

If you are as fortunate as I have been in working hard and being sucessful enough to lend a hand to a worthy organization...look around and find your passion and lend them a hand too!

Design To Market has been staging homes throughout Greater Cincinnati since 2004.  For more information about our servies call us at 513-265-0952.

Jo- I did not know about Kiva but just visited their website to learn about it.  Congratulations to you for giving back what you have been so fortunate to receive.  I've suggested this so that others may learn of Kiva.

Hi Jo, it's all about a hand up not a hand out. Your deliquency rate tells the whole story. There are people who want to succeed in life, they just need a break. Great work that you are involved with.

Jo--Thank you for this post and bring Kiva to our attention.  I am going to check it out right now.  I love the concept and had never of it before your post.

Hi Jo: My husband and I have made over $40,000 in Kiva loans over the past few years. We keep lending the same money over and over once it has been paid back. We had a spate of loans that weren't paid back from one country that was experiencing civil unrest, but slowly the money is trickling back in again. Mostly the money gets paid back quickly, before the loan comes due. I think so many Kiva loans are paid back because the entrepreneurs that receive the loans also receive support and training in good business practices.

You can start making loans with very little money. Sometimes people are only asking for $25 to buy shoe making supplies or parts for a broken loom. Having a working sewing machine can mean the difference between being able to supply nutritious food for your family or going hungry.

Thanks for sharing what you know about Kiva, Jo.

Michelle, wow! I am so impressed with your generosity and your commitment to kiva. It is daunting to think how hard those entrepreneurs must work to recover from instability in their countries.
