Better Blogging Results - Things I Wish I had Done Right from the Start - Part 2A

Here is a VERY quick Scribefire lesson for enlarging your font size.  I am NO expert--I just like to have a bigger font than the one that defaults in ActiveRain.

1.  Be sure you have Firefox and Scribefire (a Firefox add-on) downloaded (see more about this in Part 1 of this series).

2.  Write your post in the normal way using Firefox.  (If you prefer to write it in a word document, do not use Microsoft Word--use Word Pad--Microsoft Word will give you strange formatting when you cut and paste.)

3.  Save your post in DRAFT mode.

4.  Reopen your post to EDIT.

5.  Copy your post while still in the editing mode.

6.  Click on Tools and then click on Scribefire. Scribefire will open over your post.  (Need a visual?  Look at photo below.)

7.  Paste your post into the "Post Content" section of Scribefire screen.

8.  Highlight all of the text.

9.  Click on the font size--make it "4 (14pt)".

10.  Highlight and copy all of your text.

11.  Move back to the Firefox window and RIGHT CLICK in the text box and click paste.

Your post should now be in a larger font size.  So all you did here was make the exact font a larger size.  I am not going to teach you how to do anything else in Scribefire because to be honest, I have never bothered doing anything else.  Once you get comfortable with this little lesson, you will feel more comfortable with Scribefire and you can write your own post about all the really cool things that you can do that Canfield didn't even know about!  If I left anything out, please comment on it below!

Now go have some fun!

Thanks for this post, I've downloaded 2 scribefires and have never been able to get them to copy and paste and look different than the normal ar type.  I'm gonna work on this, with help.  Hopefully you soon see a post done with scribefire!

Hi Wanda - The most important step is to Right Click to paste back to your post.  Otherwise you get the Firefox window for pasting, and that takes away the font size!  Hopefully this tip helps!

Hi Jerry - We have all been Newbies--there is so much to learn here!!

Hi Rick - I don't usually use WordPad--I just usually type right into the WYSIWYG window, but I know some people like to write in another program first--it just doesn't work well with Microsoft Word.  : )

thx for the tips. You know this is really one of the upgrades AR should make. You should be able to change size and color in here and not need to even go through this.  It is quite stupid.

Hi Debbie - I would be nice if a little bigger font was an option.  : )

I was trying to use Scribefire but was having problems with the fonts anyway. I think it might have been because I was writing my posts in MS Word first. I’ll try it your way and see how that works. Thanks for the tip.

Hi Chris--Tips like this can never be posted too much.  Each time someone takes the time and trouble, so many people comment with thank yous!  I type my posts up in a Word Doc and then drag into my AR post.  Works for me and seems a little less complicated than this process, but we all should use what works best for us!!  Very nice of you to take the time!!

Hi Jonathan - I had trouble with the actual fonts in Scribefire, so I just stopped trying to use them and only bothered with the increasing of the font size.  : )

Hi Pat - It is strange that different things work on different computers.  : )  When I tried working with a Word Doc, I got all kinds of strange formatting problems.

Thanks for posting your advice.  Several times over the past months I've logged onto AR .. looked over the resources .. and felt overwhelmed.  I guess newbies just have to remember "Baby steps" will get us there eventually!

Hi Dianne - Exactly!  Baby steps work best or your head will spin.  Don't expect to understand everything in a week or two (or a month or two for that matter!).  Have Fun--that's the main thing.

Hi again Chris.  I like the idea of using Firefox to get better formatting, but Firefox crashed my computer, so I had to remove it.  Plus our mls won't show up on firefox - not authorized or something like that.  So thanks for the post.  I'm working my way backwards through your posts.

Hi Roberta - Yes, my MLS won't work with Firefox either.  I guess if I had your experience with Firefox I wouldn't want to use it, but it works well for blogging.

Chris--After you type your post in Word you have to highlite it and then click on the icon to remove formatting then you add it back in.  Jon Zolsky posted a great tutorial on it and I reblogged it--you might check it out.
