The Blank Stare!!

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Wilmington Real Estate 4U Wilmington, NC

Here in North Carolina we are so  familiar with  the "blank stare."   What is that you say....well if you are a consumer...be aware....any time you look at a home in North Carolina the showing agent should be giving you a copy of the "Working with Agents Brochure."

What?   You mean they didn't give it to you when they meet you at a property or meet you in their office before putting you in their car.....well they are breaking the law.....  they should be handing you the brochure, explaining it to you and asking you to sign it....No...its not a contract....it is merely a disclosure of how agents work in NC and how they can represent you.  They can work for the seller, the buyer or both...you choose.

Today....I experienced the "blank stare" once again... It is amazing how many agents do not give out this brochure when they first meet a client. Keep this in mind when  choosing an agent to represent you.  They should be following the law.  Keep your eye out  for the "Working with Agents Brochure.".....you'll then know you have the right agent. If you want to see what you missed

and oh, by the way...the Beals Team follows the rules and will always give you a "Working with Agents Brochure."  Call us today if you are a consumer or refer your clients to us if you are an agent....We work for you , we do it right....and we  work hard to decrease the "Blank Stare."

We don't have that law here in VA, but it seems like a very good one as so many people get confused by who is working for who...love that the lines are clearly defined!

Thanks Shannon for your comment!  Your state does not have any consumer agency laws?  I wonder how many others do not explain how we work???  I know lots of agents here do not explain agency till contract time (only because it is a part of the contract)

Hi Dick and Sandy, I may have been on the other side of the table.  My wife and I spent many days over the years searching for the location of our coastal home.  My glossed over blank stare when I am presented with the WWAB for the umpteenth time has a different meaning, "what another one."  The good agents bear with me and grin as I sign one more form.  Only a few times recently have we not been presented the form.

This is fabulous information, Dick and Sandy.  I just printed it to give to my clients. It is much clearer than the explanations that are part of our California real estate forms. It is especially important for prospects who call a different agent every time there is something they wish to see. Loyalty may sometines need to be defined and coaxed. Thanks to the Internet Buyer age, loyalty is no longer a word in our lexicon!
