Woe is Sheen?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Auto & Home & Life Insurance throughout North Carolina

Despite having more flaws than the reigning Congress our Armchair Pundits shake a stick at while maxing out their Credit Cards on their own personal time, I always considered myself something other than a fair-weather fan.

Take where I grew up, for example.  It is two hours North of Pittsburgh.  My favorite baseball team will forever be the lowly Pirates.  And my favorite football team will always be the Steelers.  No wonder I don't follow baseball ... ;)

But I've always been true to the particular causes that mean something to me.  If I see something in something, I'm loyal to that something, no matter how ridiculous it may turn out.  Let's be honest, it was hard to remain a Steeler Fan when Malone was pressing his knuckles against the inner thighs of someone who can't protect incompetency.

Such is my position on Charlie Sheen.   I loved the original "WallStreet."  I even dug "Major League".  And when I saw "HotShots", I just knew that there was a comedical genius wrapped up within the confines of a very less than stellar dude.

Demons are what demons are and no amount of financial fame or glory will make up for not being able to hold a sleeping hand that really loves you, at night ... or day ... nor tight, either way.

Personally, I heart crazy.  I grip that moment and that person, with all their ills ... so tight, that I wonder what Life would be without it.  This whole deal with Charlie Sheen though, makes me reconsider everything.

Did you know 'Charlie Sheen' ain't his real name?  Did you realize that maybe it ain't him that has to answer ... that perhaps the joke is on those of us who are buying into it and those of us who are reporting it?

The prospect of profits makes Jokers of us all.

Two things, 1- as i've watch the sheen drama unfold I've prayed for him.  And my belief in prayer and my faith are steadfast even in the worst of times.

2- for the past month I've been a total crazy magnet so I expect Charlie Sheen to show up anytime now in my office to buy the for sale house next door to Ben Roethelisberger's Lake Oconee house.

and

ps- and as our youngest son was diagnosed with Schizophrenia just over 3 years ago at age 16 I'm no stranger to crazy or demons. (and that statement is no ply for sympathy, just a fact)  I can handle it.

I admit that I don't follow hollywood drama but it's impossible not to have heard rumblings regarding Charlie Sheen.  In my personal opinion, we- as a society, seem to idolize celebrities and then become disillusioned and disheartned when they turn out to be just regular human beings.  If Charlie Sheen were your dentist or Fed Ex driver it might be news in your town, but not a national incident.  Famous people are still just that- people.  I'm not sure why we expect they would be untouched by the same troubles and dramas that befall us all.

Geez, I never really thought about the joke being on us. Of course, with "Hollywood"...anything and everything is possible. Regardless, I assume he's putting more chump change in his pocket due to all the publicity. It's still not enough publicity for me to watch "Two and 1/2 Men". I think it's just another example of how money does not equal happiness. If you are an addict who stumbles on a million, you are still an addict with a million. Money doesn't seem to dilute the demons but only intensifies them. It's not the root of all evil, not even the love of it but it's more less who you are at the core that allows money to work for or against you. I can't help but feel sorry for him. It's pretty easy to play it cool for the outside world but he seems to be tormented by something fierce. Sometimes the only way for extreme addicts to finally reach sobriety is death itself.

How do we talk about this on a public real estate blog site without being too compromising? Those demons are real to the people who experience them...addictive personalities will engage in every and all behaviors, always to excess. Sobriety and regularity are just too boring for certain people to get through the day. The drugs and women and outlandish self-aggrandizement get all wrapped up in a brain chemistry that just needs to keep getting the "hits". Anyone who has been in his place (albeit without the money and fame) or known people who live this, just understand. Clearly I am not condoning this scary behavior, but I do understand it. Somewhere along the line this guy has fathered kids, none of whom should have to deal with growing up with a dad is who not only a nightmare but a public nightmare. I certainly don't know Charlie Sheen, but I have known -- very well -- a number of these type of folks through out my life. Sometimes they find a little peace, usually not....some people just will never be peaceful.

Hi Jason,

It's hard to know who is the "real" Charlie Scheen and which part are the drugs and mental illness.  Mental illness is still poorly understood, but we do know that addiction is physical as much as it is psychological. Often those who are prone to addiction have the added demon of mental illness.  This man appears to be in a major state of mania and should probably be hospitalized for his own protection.   But we don't know at this point what the true character of the man is - beneath the layers of addiction and mental illness.

What I feel badly for is that celebrity exposed him at his very lowest and the public lapped it up.  Sad that we seem to be unable to avert our eyes when there is a train wreck.  It would be so much better for him if this breakdown could be a private affair.

Jason, who knows, really?  He truly is a train wreck in motion, and it's every news program and venue out there.  You really can't "not see" it, can you?  He obviously is out of control, and the demons, whatever they are, are in control, not he!  I truly pray that he will find some kind of help, but he needs to get to a point where he "hits bottom" or he will never recognize the need!!!  Judging by the interviews they have shown us on TV, he has lost his grip on reality!!!

The ones I worry about the most are the poor children, being "raised" by him and such creatures as the women he has chosen as his home companions, and the despicable circumstances of the lifestyle they live in that house!  They are the ones I pray for the most.

It's just sad.

I also love crazy and as long as it isn't destructive to me or anyone else, I'll hold on tight and never let go. Plus my 'crazy' is awfully cute ;⩘)

I understand that element within him that cannot endure bland. Neither can I. I wont judge because it's his life to live. I adore his show and will maintain hope that his children are provided every opportunity to live healthy, happy lives of their own. His shadow may be large, but perhaps they'll have the strength of character to grow their own even larger.

I read all these comments and so agree with Jennifer.

.I too hope the l hope that his children are provided every opportunity to live healthy, happy lives of their own. His shadow may be large, but perhaps they'll have the strength of character to grow their own even larger

This as Jen put it..... is what is the most important outcome  with this whole mess.  To live his,  mess of a life in front of a judging public,... in itself is insane...but that seems to be his  price to pay for fame,  fortune . There are always two sides to every story and so easy to judge ...when we don't walk in another's  shoes.....it has to be deeper than what we hear and see.  On the today show this morning Charley was there with his attorney....they took his boys away during the night.....what did I see?

a father in grief, not knowing where his sons are... a father in pain......Maybe Charlie is his own worst enemy but somewhere within those demons is the heart of a hurting man

Jason,

Seriously Mr. Estavez is in serious trouble. All the money in the world can't help you when your inside a pine box. " John Belushi anyone" I don't care how much fame and fortune he has, I wouldn't want to be him about now. I agree with Tamy, I,ll be praying for him.

Hugh & Tammy...yes we all need to pray for them all...they have becomes victims of themselves...A spiritual intervention might be the only way to redeem the whole messy situation...Where there is hurt, pain, vindictiveness, unforgiveness, carelessness, waste of a life, addiction and everything else.........what other that  divine intervention would help

Jason, I think maybe all the money and fame actually masks his ability to recognize his demons.

Interesting commentary.   I don't care what Bob Stewart says about the lot of you around here, I think you are pretty okay;)

Sometimes I wonder "what if" when it comes to the degree I pursued in College.  What if I chose to go after my Masters in Psychology?  What if I had the opportunity to help those I actually understand, the weird among us (ie, everyone but Florence Henderson;)?  What if I decided to cut-out any and all vices in my own life and how would that affect the life I know now?  Oh, the "what if's" ...

And in regards to Mr. Sheen, "what if" he wasn't who he was and is?  Maybe life would have turned out different.  And maybe that's not necessarily as appealing as the drama, frail frame he sees naked in the mirror every morning, reporters nested like bees at a hive on his doorstep,  and a likely spot on the "Where Are They Now TMZ Files" while realizing the botched botox that impassioned partying tends to ... well, botch!  I wish the guy the best.  And give me the ratings a new episode of the show with HIM in it will parlay.  But more than that, I wish upon his kids more sunrise than sensationalism going forward.

I must have missed the latest on Charlie Sheen while being glued to Two and a Half Men nightly from 6 to 7 instead of watching the news.  Hell if it wasn't for Alan I probably wouldn't watch the show at all.

I don't give a rat's behind about Charlie Sheen, Lindsy Lohan or any other celebrity or should I say celebrated personal train wreck. The media and the public lap this stuff up like a kid eating sugar coated breakfast cereal. Yeah, he has his demons, don't we all, some peoples demons negatively affect those around them or the public in general. But unless this cats behavior is crapping on my life, then I have no concerns or opinions other than leave him alone. It's his sh*t, let him deal with it. All the attention he's getting sure isn't helping his situation.

BTW I am a fan, will always be a fan in spite of his behavior. One has nothing to do with the other IMHO.

Wooooooo - Charlie Sheen again.  Just can't get enough of that guy.  But, at least the tragedy in Japan has eclipsed him for a bit.
