Daylight Savings Time... Please... Just Tell Me If It's Time to Be Hungry or Sleepy!

Daylight Savings Time- I've struggled with it all of my life!

clockI don't know about you but this Daylight Savings Time is doing nothing for me in terms of Saving Time and in fact I've lost about 4 hours since this past Sunday!

We have Benjamin Franklin to thank for this scrambling of our Circadian rhythms.  Good old Ben thought we could be more productive and make better use of our resources by using the longer daylight hours.  So around World War I they figured out a way to do this primarily as a means saving much needed fuel (coal)... it always comes back to either money or war, doesn't it.

There are even foods you can eat to help you get the Circadian rhythm back in sync.  And, I'm sure that drinking caffeine is out of the question!

SleepSo around 6 when the household is wondering where dinner is... by clock says it's only 5... and at 11 while I'm still glued to my computer reading ActiveRain blogs.... someone keeps saying it's time for bed.   But my body says "it's only 10!"   It's now midnight but I'm still awake!

And of course... what goes around... comes around.
Wake up!!! it's 6 a.m.... Time to turn on Mike & Mike and get ready to walk.  Nope... my sleepy body is saying it's only 5 a.m.  and there's no way I'm opening my eyes.

Therefore... if you see me before 10 am and I appear to be a bit groggy...give me another week and I should be back in the swing of things.  Until then... someone just tell me when it's time to eat and go to bed!

Anyone else out there struggling with this????

What's Your Remedy?

Shannon- It always takes me about 2 weeks before my body gets in sync with the time... and it's only when we spring forward.  I've been doing my daily walk half asleep!

Robert- Yes!! It was the same here.. just a little cloudy.  I could have slept another hour.

Frank and Karen- I have to admit I love that it stays light longer.  More time to play!

Kathy - I feel the same way and for at least a week keep referring to "winter" time, like I just can't accept that I've lost an hour. However, when we gain an hour, I seem to be just fine - lol!

Kristine... we must be on the same clock.  Maybe we have more of a problem because we don't like losing things.... even hours.

We must be kindred spirits.  I struggle with this EVERY year.  This year I tried to fight it and not let it get the better of me, but here we are on Wednesday and I'm still struggling.  My internal body clock is just as confused as yours.  I should be fine by the weekend, but that's a whole week of being messed up!

Kathy - I'm using toothpicks to keep my eyes open in the morning.  The worst is trying to explain to the cat and the dog that it's not time to eat yet.  They just don't seem to get it.

It takes me a while to adjust too - seems like the same problem you have of not feeling like it's time to go to bed yet - but then come morning - oops - not ready!!!  Even our dog was still on "old time" the first couple days and wondering why anybody was getting up when it was still time to sleep.  LOL

Donna- I hear ya'... I am so tired because I don't get to sleep until around midnight and I'm waking up at 5 (6am)

Sally- oh yes... our poor animals.  I wondered why I didn't see my neighborhood peacock last night.

Barbara- Actually ... no.   I cannot wake up in the a.m. but give me another week.

Nancy- I think I'm probably not one to do a lot of long distance travel... the time change would always throw me for a loop!

The first few days can be a little rough, but I have to admit that I'm a big promoter of the longer days!  I'm not an early riser, so that extra hour of light at the end of the day is like heaven.

David- I love the longer days too... more time to be outside but the first 2 weeks of this are always tough for me!

Janice- That's it.. jet lag without the fun.  I have friends that adapt to this without any problems.

This is the time I like,  i don't like the "Fall" behind part of it.  and I would prefer to just keep it one time all year round.

Kathy, I just hate Spring time change. I have troubles waking up on winter days and now I have to do it even earlier. Interesting fact: Russia is not changing the time anymore. They stay at normal one.

Kathy, I'm soooo with you!  I don't get up until it's daylight outside so right now I'm thrown back to getting up later than a week ago.  I don't even know if it's still worth doing all that time changing stuff anyway, we are now changing it sooner in the Spring and later in the Fall as we used to.  Why can't we just keep the same time year 'round?

Christine- I'm with you, however I do like that the days are longer.  I'm slowly beginning to feel in sync.

Anna- I think I might be with Russia on that.  I don't mind gaining an hour but losing one is hard for me.

Silvia- Anna (#18) said Russia doesn't change the time anymore.  And, not all of our states are on DST.

Kathy,

I am still trying to adjust.... it has really been hard to get up and get going in the mornings.  Cute post... and a fun read.  I like all the clip art you used too.  It's good to know that I am not the only one with slow mornings this week...  Thanks for sharing this!

Linda- Still finding it hard to get up in the a.m.  I should be ok by next week.  I got the clip art from iClipart.com

Russel- I know it sounds so simple but when my clock says it's 6am, my body says it's still 5am.  But you're right... it's just one hour!
