Fort San Juan de UlĂșa - Mexico

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Venture Realty International

Fort San Juan de Ulúa is located on an island and is part of the City of Veracruz, Mexico.  This island is the site where the Spanish first landed in their conquest of Mexico.

Fort San Juan de Ulúa protected the city from foreign nations and from pirates.  It was started in 1582 and completed in 1707.  The fort has been used as a prison and now is a tourist attraction with a very interesting museum.

Kathy,  I know I used my imagination a lot when I was there.  I could even look out and see the Spanish galleons loaded with treasure. I will post another set of photos next Saturday and also a post on the city of Veracruz is in progress.

Gary...fantastic photos;  to see places that I will never visit [at least in this lifetime LOL] is so much fun; to see these places through your photos is history at it's best.  You can imagine all kinds of persons there or on the waters around the area.  Great localism; great travel-log for all.   Have a great weekend.

Gary - Great tour and a wonderful series of photos. Almost like being there, or at least, going with an experienced guide. Certainly a long history.

Gary--Great shots!  Reminds me of touring San Juan, Puerto Rico recently.  Yes, I think I would shake in my boots if I saw a pirate ship on the horizon.  FUN!!!

Mary, Thank you.  I hadn't thought about it, but it is similar to San Juan.

Hi Gary,

We just love your pictures of all these historic sites, I did not know better from your description I would have sworn that these pictures were taken in Europe, interesting how the entire style and design was transplanted in to the "new world"

thanks for sharing these.

Peter & Linda, Thank you.  I agree, if I didn't have my pictures in folders on the computer, I could easily mix up photos of Europe with Latin America.  I am really glad that we have some of these styles and designs much closer to us than across the ocean.

Melinda, I agree.  I love the history and culture  -- and I love to try and imagine the lives of the people who had been their in the past.
