Retire in Colorado SpringsColorado Springs Made Forbes List for Great Places to Retire

As if you need another reason to move to Colorado Springs. In the March 23rd issue of Forbes Magazine, Colorado Springs is on the list of The Best Retirement Places.

Forbes ranked many cities based on tax burden, cost of living, weather, availability of doctors, driving environment, crime rates and opportunities for an active retirement. For the complete article visit Forbes Magazine.

Though they cited Colorado Springs as a "cold weather climate," I take exception to this. It is not unusual for us to have temperatures in the 60s and 70s during the winter. Yes, we did have a cold snap with highs of -10 this winter, but it was the first in nearly 10 years, and a week later we had 65 degree days. I remember clearly because we happened to have buyers in town during the cold snap and talked with them a week later about how they missed the great weather.

One thing that Forbes did not take into consideration, is the convenience of military facilities for military retirees. In Colorado Springs, we have 3 major military installations with commissaries and exchanges, and two military hospitals. So it is a very friendly city for military retirees.

Here is another reason to move to Colorado Springs. The Colorado Springs Gazette reported today that gas prices are among the lowest in Colorado. While the national average on Monday was $3.58/gal, in Colorado Springs it was $3.38/gal, and in California it was $4.03/gal (a warm winter climate but not on the Forbes list).

Nancy, Colorado Springs is a great place.  No wonder it made the Frobes list.
