30 Days of Marketing Opportunities - Day 1

My goal is to write 5 days per week for 30 days. So I've started this series that I hope to motivate me to write. 30 Days of Marketing Opportunities will give you 30 projects or tasks that your Virtual Assistant can handle on your behalf, generating leads that will ultimately generate more income for you!  These are tasks that do not require a lot of high-end skill but, instead, require some time (hence the reason your Virtual Assistant should handle these tasks, not you!) and attention to detail.  Join me on the journey!

Day 1 - Generate and Post Short URLs on Your ActiveRain Posts

short urlThe short url is a nifty little feature on your ActiveRain posts that can bring even more attention to your posts.  Simply have your Virtual Assistant go through previous posts that you've written and click the button that says "Generate Short URL" and voila!  That's all there is to it (easy-peasy, huh?).

After the short url has been created, your Virtual Assistant can then submit the link, with a catchy, keyword-rich title to Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, MySpace and anywhere else you happen to have a social media profile set up.

Short urls drive additional traffic to your posts - traffic that can be tracked so that you can see exactly where your click-throughs are coming from.  This is a handy tool indeed if you want to see which marketing methods are working best for you.

Nice post Renae. I look forward to reading the rest of your tips. Self market yourself within your own writings is a great idea.

You most definitely have to market your own blogs and articles, Janet.  If you write hyper-local posts or focus on a specific area or neighborhood, it is a perfect way to set yourself up as a neighborhood expert in that area.

Thanks for the additional link, Dave! I'll check it out as well and add it to my arsenal!

Try to market yourself without being overly solicitous is a difficult and fine line to walk, John. Hopefully, I'll show my target audience that not only can I provide great marketing opportunities for them but can also actually handle those tasks as well!

First, Norma, take a breath! We'll work it out!  Now, when you open one of your already published posts here on Active Rain, scroll to the very bottom of the post. Now look right under where it says "Posted By Norma J Elkins...".  That's where you will see the link to click. It says "Generate Short URL."  Give it a whirl and let me know if you still need help.

Don't just figure it out, Lindsey. Make the most of it to give your posts even more exposure!  You've got some great posts and I know others will want to read them as well! :-)

I must be having the same mental block as Norma. I'm familiar with the short URL capability. What's the difference between using/submitting this link and simply posting the traditional link to your social media sites?

You're welcome, Cheryl!

Awesome, Cindy! That's my goal - to give you something new to ponder, and USE!

Well Mike, one of the differences is that the short url allows easier tracking. The point is to be able to track who has clicked the link, not just to submit the link to various SMM sites. There are services as simple as the one AR has (letting you know how many clickthrus you received on the link) to Google URL Shorteners that will tell you when people clicked on your links.  It's about refining your marketing approach, Mike. It's an easy way to figure out what avenues are working to drive traffic to your site or blog and what avenues are not. Does that answer your question?
