Anguillian Rum Punch

A good rum punch is great fun.  The Caribbean is well known for it’s rum, rum runners, and people who stumble after too many rum punches.  I thought it would be fun to do a search for a variety of rum punch recipes today to share.  Bobby Flay, Martha Stewart have well known names, but they are not to be out shined (different than moonshine) by Cooks.com or the Anguillian.    Of course the key ingredient is rum, which if you drink to much of it can sound like fun if you say it ten times really fast.  First let me say this is not an enabler blog.  I am not suggesting you drink too much, or drink at all.  All I am doing is sharing these recipes.  So here we go.  And please drink responsibly if you drink at all and never get behind the wheel of any vehicle if you have been drinking.

Several juices and rums here

The mixing of fruit, both sweet and tart can make a difference.  Nutmeg is a Caribbean spice I see is added to one of the recipes.  To me that is more of an eggnog thing, but what do I know.  Here Bobby Flay mixes three brand name rums along with three sweets and a tart.  This should bring out the fun.  I can hear the steel drums playing now.

The Anguillian Rum Punch Recipe

This recipe on the right is from The Anguillan and as you can see the make this is the party size because it is always a party when you make rum punch.  I read that you can store this in the refridgerator for a while and have it ready whenever you need it.  Here in Boston where I am writing this post it is not quite warm enough for a Rum Punch right now.  Personally I would rather be in Anguilla sitting on some great porch, or hanging out by the beach with my rum punch.  Music always goes well with Rum Punch.  What is your favorite Rum Punch music?

Cooks rum Punch recipe

Here in the Cooks.com recipe we find the nutmeg.  Amber rum is the lighter in color rum and no brand name is mentioned.  I am not sure it matters which brand you use when you get all the other ingredients includes.  I do like the juice of real fruit added rather than reconstituted juices.  I think it just gives a fresher overall flavor to the cocktail.  Once you have one or two, I think it really doesn’t matter.  The key is to have fun responsibly and not drive.

I hope this has brightened you day, stop back for other favorite recipe’s.  I will be doing the best lobster recipes soon.

Larry--We saw awesome prices for rum in the Caribbean.  I wish I liked rum as the drinks look delectable.  I did bring back three little umbrellas--never used.  I will have to be creative with fruit salad or something.

Have a great day!

Larry, if you're staying in Anguilla, you wouldn't worry too much about driving anywhere. Just make sure you don't fall asleep in the sun.

@Mary, I am not much of a rummy myself. I get headaches from the sugar, but I do like the party atmosphere that surrounds rum versus day Tequilla.

@Malcolm There was a story in the local papers here where a Father borrowed his childs bike and was arrested coming home from the bar drunk.  He was on the sidewalk, but the law here is if you are on wheels you are driving.  Hard to catch a break.  I get the no sleep in the sun, thanks and happy birthday to you today my friend.
