Will government shutdown affect my flight?

My wife and I like to hop in our plane and fly to Florida for long weekends. I am pretty confident in my flying abilities but wonder if the shutdown that's coming(for sure) will affect air traffic controllers!

Over the last few days some of those controllers have been caught napping on the job. When I am flying I depend on the controllers to keep me out of the way of the big boys or little boys(it doesn't matter).

I know police and firemen remain on the job but what about air traffic controllers? I file my flight plan with Lockheed Martin so that doesn't concern me but the guys behind the radar screens should be considered critical jobs. 

We are headed to Destin,Florida on Saturday in the plane or in the car if the controllers are absent.

Mike - to my understanding, it will not affect ATC, Military, social security, TSA, etc, etc, etc.

It really does not affect all that much.  A friend of mine will be working and just banking the hours.  It is more of a scare tactic than anything. 

Now, let's shut down congress and the President and we would get somewhere.

Hi Mike,

I would expect you should be fine, but it is good to be on alert and double check before it's too late to know. I'm all for the governement "shut down" for a while, we could get a lot more done in this country without congress and the prez. Those are very "uncritical" areas of government. All departments should be cut in half along with budgets. Some just need to be eliminated totally.

How many government workers does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Between having a committee to study lightbulbs, find a company to develope their "lightbulb", someone to "order the $10,000 lightbulbs, someone to get the lightbulbs into the budget, someone to order a ladder, I give up, but you know you can't send anyone to Wal-Mart to buy it, and to screw it in!

Hi Mike~  I love that you get to fly in your own plane to your own place in Destin!  You are so blessed and I am excited for you!  By the way, i have been a little out of touch since we just moved to our Farm.  Once we get settled into our farm we are then making a HUGE move out of the country for my husband's job!  You will never guess where we are going....I still can't believe it either!

Even if the government goes into shutdown, I suspect that it will have little affect on our day to day lives. I'm still predicting that they come to some kind of solution just in the nick of time!!

35+ years ago, BF in Hawaii was an air traffic controller - they put him in the KONA tower on the Big Island of Hawaii so he could SEE the planes coming and going as he had trouble keeping them separated on the BIG SCREEN in BAD weather * YEOW!!!
