A Year of Growing Rich:  Choose Your Goal

Book Cover

This is the 15th week of a 52 week motivational journey and I want to invite you along.  Each week, I will touch on one of the chapters from Napoleon Hill's book titled  A Year of Growing Rich and subtitled "52 Steps to Achieving Life's Rewards."

If you would like you can pick up a new or used copy from Amazon for as low as a few cents  -- a great investment in your future.  Previous posts in this series can be accessed by clicking here.

It seems that every motivational speaker and real estate trainer will talk about goals. Napoleon Hill devoted this chapter to choosing your goal. He said that very few people have goals and plans to reach them.

Hill says, "If you know exactly what you want and have absolute faith in your ability to get it, you can achieve success".

Hill explains,"There is a precise four-point formula for achieving your goals":

  1. "Write out a clear statement of what you desire most..."
  2. "Write out a clear outline of the plan by which you intend to attain this objective and clearly state what you intend to give in return."
  3. "Set a definite time limit..."
  4. "Memorize what you have written and repeat it many times daily as a prayer".
If you follow these steps as outlined by Hill, you will set yourself apart from most people and will have a much greater chance of achieving success.

Hill concludes saying, "Definiteness of purpose makes the word impossible obsolete".

Hiya Gary - I totally agree with Hill in making impossible obsolete. Need to be put with trying and thinking about, both fully replaced by doing.

This is so right on!  Thanks for doing this every week Gary.  I'm really appreciating visiting an old book that is still so relevant.  Goals - good idea for all of us to review.

Larry, You are the perfect example of making impossible obsolete and also of someone who is always doing.

Anna,  Thank you for the feature.  It is an honor.

Gary - This is one of the most inspirational post I've seen in a  long time! I so  believe in Napoleon's philosophy and bookmarked! Every goal I've ever succeeded at I've used all these steps to do it. I went back to collage in my thirty's and got a 4.0 GPA - how, because I wouldn't settle for less...although algebra and calc almost killed me....... and my tutor - lol! Suggested!

Kristine, Thank you for the suggest.  I've felt that every chapter in the book makes an important point -- but the steps in this chapter are great.  Next week will touch on something that most of us have to fight - procrastination.

Andrea,  I find myself agreeing more with the book as I read more of it.  It just seems to get better and better.

Lynn, I am having fun with this series -- and I usually write with the idea that I am the one who has the most to learn.  I am back at my mom's in Wyoming with lots of snow.  I am excited about the prospect of having her house all finished soon and being able to spend all next winter in the warm areas of Latin America. Have a great week.

In this market we have to reach for the stars or get left behind.  Thanks for the helpful post.

Doug, This is a tough market and it is more important than ever to set goals and make the plans to achieve them.

Andre,  I'm glad that you stopped by. I hope you check out some of my photos, too. I would love your comments and I hope to see your first post soon.

Gary I wanted to pop back in to say one more time......this is sooooo important.  If agents followed this 4 steps consistently their business would be off the charts positive.

Thanks again for sharing this tiny YET HUGE book!

Gary - I'd would like to see your photos. Is there a particular link you can lead me to? Having lived in NY for over 20 years straight after growing up in the warm Florida sun, I'm starting to think about planning my escape to Paradise. My good friend just bought land in Rinco, PR for his retirement in 5 years. I still have some time to go - It will do good for all of us Northerners to see photos of some place warm.

Anna, Thanks for stopping back - those four points will work -- unfortunately very few people follow them.

Andre, I bet you do want to end up some where warmer.  I know that I do.  Here is a link to my posts:  http://activerain.com/blogs/garytcoles  Most of them have photos that I took. Any photo (and there are only a few) from anyone else will be labeled as such.
