I Had a QR Code Epiphany Today!!! There IS an Effective Use to Them!!

Each day QR codes are becoming bigger and bigger, and though you can scan a QR code with your Droid or Iphone, and it takes you to your website, that use is limiting, can be effective, but with all the zooming in zooming out finger scrolling on the pages, and battery draining (you smart user's know exactly what I am talking about) viewing a persons website, even viewing my website on my phone is annoying.. I even have an HTC EVO (big screen for a phone) and its still annoying!

I actually discovered a use for QR codes today, that doesn't involve going to our websites, but could be a hundred times more effective! Instead of having your QR code direct a person to your website, use your QR code as a vcard. Thank about it.. It is actually quite brilliant... A person scans your code and BAM! there is all your contact information, your email, and your website.. The option pops up to save contact information in their phone book, they do, you don't have to worry about leads losing your business card or contact info again, you just helped them program your info into their phone in less then 15 seconds!!

Another thing with QR codes.. Do you want them to view your website or do you want them to call you..So why not cut through to bs and give them exactly what they need instead of leading them to a website on their phone that is going to drain their batteries and get frustrated scrolling through it that they will get off pretty quick.. Just remember, if you can get them to call you, you can get them to go to your website on their home computer to find homes!

That is just my spill on an effecitive use for QR codes...If anyone else has any tips to add please feel free to.. Attached to this blog is my QR code.. Scan it and see how easy it is to add my info to your phone and imagine how easy it would be for potiential clients to add your info if you used your QR code in such a way!

QR codes have a lot of uses.  The vCard capability is a great one in which you place the graphic on you business card, nametag, blog, website, so forth an so on.

In terms of the web directional piece, adding a QR code on a listing sign that directs to a mobile formetted presentation of the property allows you to provide more information for the "window shopper" like never before.

Great info.  Looks like Microsoft tag is also evolving pretty quickly offering more flexibility.  They are looking to go well beyond the regular 2D barcoding technology as they continue to build and develop their back-end.  I'm also watching that technology pretty closely.

Stacey, thanks for sharing your great idea and point.

In an era where instant gratification is the rule, QR codes represent the quickest way for real estate agents to connect with clients and engage with future prospects. Immediate access to valuable information - contact information, your website link, home details, etc. - can help you be more successful.  Use QR codes on property boxes, flyers, direct mail postcards, newsletters, business cards, magnets - the possibilities are endless.

Of course, it's important to put some effort into the "other end" of the QR code - where it leads.  Whether you're sending people to a landing page on your website or to a listing microsite, the QR code is the messenger, but you've got to deliver a good message, or else the QR code is nothing but I neat marketing gimmick.

I am not sure about the popularity of QR codes, as I have not seen as many as I had anticipated. But I love your idea, why pull up your website, the contact information is better, and even better a phone call.

Stacey:

Eveyone has such great uses for QR Codes.  Using a QR code on flyers leading to a YouTube video of the house is a good use.  Also using QR codes on Vcards is a good thing.  Thanks for your Epiphany.

Great idea use of QR code as business contact. I scanned your QR code and got the info but is there a way to add it to the my contact list? I am using iPhone.

I wonder if there are any statistics on how popular QR codes actually are.  I don't have the cability on my phone to scan them but I will have to look into that. I like the idea of putting the code for a Vcard on the back of my business cards. I'll have to try that with my next order!

Oh, I love ActiveRain!  I've had a vcard QR code in my outlook signature for months, but I still clicked on your blog to follow the discussion.  I've learned a few things and found a new person to subscribe to.  Thanks so much for your post!

Hi Stacey. I started using more of them for my listings. It helps when the buyer wants to know the price so in that way it's been deemed effective. So far anyway.

I'm not sold on the QR codes, but I do like your idea about them linking to your full contact info. That being said, I still believe that a new technology will come along and replace the QR codes before it's ingrained in society. Mobile is the way to go, in my opinion.

Stacy like the post and the idea!  Your comments had some good thoughts as well.   Not using QR now, your post gave me ideas on how I should incorporate one.

I've been using www.QRFlyerBox.com (only for a couple of months).  It was started by a local Grand Rapids, MI Realtor (r) - Arthur Vachon and it's free to create your QR code and put your listings on there.  Every one seems to have a smart phone these days, so I'm all for it.

As of right now, I think QR codes are good if you need something to stare at to make you really, really dizzy.  Other than that, I'm waiting until they become more socially accepted before I even worry about it.
