Active Rain/Kodak Contest: What Makes A Good Sign?

They say that the color orange is the most visible color in advertising, so following that logic, every real estate sign should be orange, right?I think there is more to it than that. The shape of the sign, how it is hung, graphic design, colors and the information on a sign all play into a good sign.

What Makes a Good Sign?

Information Matters

But the BEST sign is one that has MY number on it! We still get a few deals every year from sign calls, and we want the numbers and web information to be OURS, not our company's. No offense, but who cares most about selling our listing? We do! We know more about it and we can give the most accurate, up to date info about our own listings. So a good sign for us also has our number.

Another good thing we like to have on our sign is our web site. All our listings are on our site, so Buyers can see everything they want to know.

But Buyers don't want to wait until they go home to get information, so here are a couple of new things we are doing:

We are starting to use the 'Text Me' feature on our signs, so Buyers can access information from their phones, and we are notified right away, along with their cell number

We are also using QR codes to individual property sites where the buyer can instantly see all the pictures and information about the house right from their smart phone. We put these on our flyers in flyer boxes. (But that's another post.)  We think this is a great addition to our sign.

Brand Matters

Coldwell Banker is one of the most recognized names in real estate, so having our Broker's name on the sign is huge. There is such a huge level of confidence that goes with our brand.

Presentation Matters

We like the yard arm concept for a sign - and our broker just bought these really high tech signs which look way better than just sticking it in the ground on two metal prongs the way most brokers do. We look more professional with a more professional sign.

So what makes a good sign?

The one that brings you business! We think the combination of the brand, the look of the sign, and the ease of contacting us and getting information about our listings makes for a great sign!

I am writing this post as an entry to the Active Rain/Kodak  Sign /Flyer Challenge and have a chance to win the Kodak ESP 6150 All-In-One printer and Ink.

I remember going back 20 years or so when Real Estate owners in my area did not allow an agents name on the sign. It certaily was backwards thinking and eventually it changed because of RE/MAX.

Jon, I am going to add our sign - just couldn't coordinate downloading it from my iPhone to the computer in time to get it posted. Come back and see later today :)

Leilani, our new brokerage doesn't do floor duty becaus nobody talks about a listing better than the listing agent. He's a smart man, our broker.

Praful, we try!

Bill, RE/MAX turned the industry on its head when it came out. So many things are different now because of RE/MAX's pioneer efforts!

Sharon,

I think it's a wise move to have your riders in bright contrasting colors.

Good speed with your sales,

Steve
