I know I have spoken before about heating the pools here in Florida, but many of you were not aware that we use solar panels, so when I was out taking photos today for another listing I was sure to get a good shot of the solar panels on the roof. While they do NOT heat up the water like gas or electricity does, for most people it is enough to take the chill off the water. If you have a hot tub, you will definitely need another form of pool heating to complement the solar panels.
Recently a pool expert also explained that having the pool finish in a darker color is also a good way to increase the water temperature! The traditional light blue, while attractive, does nothing to increase the temp! He also said you do NOT want to go too dark because you cannot see the bottom then to see if something is in the water that should not be there - for example, a snake! Yes, I did say the 's' word - it can happen, but it's NOT normal-
We had a whole bunch of babies show up in the pool skimmer once - really freaked me out! I used a net to remove them - they were not poisonous, but they WERE snakes and that was enough for me!!!!! We also had a large lake and forest behind the house - and that gator that many of you have already seen a photo of!
