Don't Argue With Your Crazy Aunt In The Attic

By

Smoking GrannyA comment I received talking about interactions with people reminded me of good advice with some,

Don't Argue With Your Crazy Aunt In The Attic.

Mainly dealing with people who get irrational on you. What they are saying makes no sense to you. I wouldn't in general label anyone TOTALLY crazy, but their words or behaviors, as for all of us, on some days are way out there.

And if you are in no mood to argue going crazy with crazy, let them go on their crazy argument way but you just know they are not on their A game.

The reason this is good advice, is arguing with a crazy behaving person is pointless. It will go nowhere. Just chalk it up to one of those strange situations you find yourself in at times. You cannot be rational with irrational. It is like mixing oil and water in a jar and sloshing it around. When everything "settles" guess what you have? Still oil and water. Nothing got mixed up, and you just wasted a bunch of energy. Go find something else to do. But you know what? That crazy aunt of yours will probably follow you around anyway just for entertainment purposes. You know, DRAMA QUEEN.

People have good days. People have bad days. It's those crazy days you have to shake your head at sometimes.

Gary,

That's pretty funny! Is her name Maxine? She'd play the perfect character role if they ever made a movie! And that's a great title for the movie too!

Good post. I'm with Rich, I'm less tolerant for dealing with the "crazies," and I don't need any more drama in my life.

Good afternoon Gary,

No sense in getting all in a tizzy when someone is out of sorts or got up on the wrong side of the bed. Best thing to do is move on and leave them alone. Better safe than sorry!

I love the picture.  As I age/have aged I don't know if I have grown wiser, but, I do know my tolerance level for "crazies" is on a short fuse and I find it is best for me to take a hike and not engage.

Gary, I just LOVE your oil and water in a jar analogy.  I will remember this the next time I am tempted to argue with crazy!

I think being in the business of selling anything one runs into the occasional crazy person.  My policy is if it is a harmless crazy, I will do the best I can to help them.  If it is a destructive crazy, I will do what I can to get them off my lines.  Seems to work.

Gary, you can't reason with stupididty.  If someone has the mind made up and is totally off the wall, nothing will bring them around.

Gary, one of our family phrases is 'you cannot rationalize with an irrational person.' Not sure where it came from exactly but it is definitely the truth!

Gary, I had one of "those conversations" with a seller yesterday.    Seems like I am charging them to sell their home, market has not improved, and they think I should contribute and sell their home for free!

Gary,

This crazy aunt looks like George Burns and should be put on top of the roof of National Lampoon's Vacation stationwagon. LOL.  It seems like drama trauma is occurring more than ever, given the onslaught of daily challenges, both on the smaller and global scales.  You're right.  No sense arguing... g

Great advice!  Definitely makes no sense to argue.  It will get you nowhere.  Just let them vent and move on and don't take it personally.
