Thoughts for the People of Joplin, Missouri

NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray who is from Joplin and who drives the #1 NASCAR Sprint Cup car for Bass Pro Shops will be visiting the area and doing charity work to raise awareness and funds for relief efforts.  There are many NASC AR drivers from the area who are funding efforts through their foundations.

Just watching Anderson Cooper and CNN's video of the tornado-ravaged town of Joplin, Missouri - such devastation.  Simply heart-breaking to see the pictures and to hear of the losses (reporting 116 people killed).  The stories of heroics in search and rescue efforts are amazing, as are the accounts of events during the tornado strikes.

Just gut-wrenching to hear, however, that tonight and tomorrow are expected to see further tornadoes in the area - by some accounts expected to be larger than the ones seen on Sunday/Monday.  As if the mile wide/four mile long swath of devastation and the loss of life and injuries was not tragic enough.

Local agencies, such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army are providing aid - please visit these links if you can help out or provide support in any way.  1.800.RED.CROSS  www.redcross.org

Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very difficult time.

Wallace, I woke up early this morning and have been watching again on the news. It is just heartbreaking, I cannot imagine what they are going through. The Red Cross is a great place to donate too, and good for Jamie McMurray. There is no amount of money that can replace the lives that were lost, but let's get them a safe place to live, food for them, as much of a feeling of safety as can be provided after such an event.

That is wonderful the help that is coming in. This is just so heartbreaking. I too have been watching and send our prayers to the people. They need help from all of us. The news says there is a strong chance of more severe storms today as well.
