The facts: 132 dead. Thousands injured. Hundreds still missing. Millions of dollars in property damage. But none of that captures what it was really like. I will let the doctor speak for himself.

A Doctor's Account.

Billi:

Thank you for reposting Dr. Bill's account of the tornado.  What a harrowing experience and such a touching blog.  So sad.  My thoughts and prayers go out to the people in Joplin who are still missing loved ones.

Billi...I can not imagine what these poor people have had to deal with. I grew up in Alabama and my family deals with the tornado sirens, taking cover and things like that.  My oldest niece was in the basement of a friends house when the tornado hit Tuscaloosa several weeks ago. Again...I cannot begin to imagine the terror and fear.

Oh this is so devastating.  What a story and so many others have equally as horrific stories.  So many prayers to you all.

I read this earlier, Billi.  So incredibly sad.  Funny, I actually dated an ER doctor from Joplin before Tim.  I broke up with him because I had a funny "gut" feeling about him.  We've stayed in contact intermittently, so I knew that he actually quit just over a year ago and hasn't gone to work anywhere since.  I went to his Facebook page, and he's been posting updates all week complaining about not having any power at home and that his internet was intermittent.  The first question that came to my mind was, "Why aren't you at the hospital helping?"  Maybe that gut feeling wasn't too wrong after all.

Billi, it's been a week as of today.  I'm so blessed and thankful the brunt of the tornado skipped the areas outside of Joplin where my family lived.  I'm glad it missed your area also.

Thank you for sharing the doctor's account with us.  It certainly puts my personal problems into perspective.

My prayers go out to all the people affected by this horrible tornado and to those of all the other areas that have been dealing with their own tornado's, floods, and earthquakes in recent weeks.
