Think A Mouse With A Crash Helmet With Exceptions

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Mouse With CheeseI love witty quotes of wisdom in life. I also LOVE the anti-quote that refutes all that wisdom. Why? Cause there are exceptions to the rule. So don't be a stick in the mud with rigid thinking and think the opposite from time to time even in real estate.

Think A Mouse With A Crash Helmet With Exceptions.

You've heard, "the early bird gets the worm?" True in many cases and encourages you to be assertive and a go getter. BUT, not always.

"The second mouse gets the cheese." It is true sometimes to be the cautious second one in real estate and business, learning from others' mistakes.

What do they call those people with the arrows in their backs? Pioneers.

In real estate think of myths you could easily debunk with exceptions out there:

  • someone with raggedly clothes can't buy a million dollar home
  • someone dressed nice and who talks well can qualify for many upscale homes for you to show them
  • someone with a neat as a pin house could never see it fall into foreclosure
  • someone with a messy car that pulls up alongside of you on the road when you have a flat tire is not one to trust to help you at that moment

On and on it goes in life with exceptions. Give people breaks. Cut them slack. DO NOT prejudge people and REMEMBER the early bird does NOT always get the worm. A coming along SECOND mouse which just happens to be wearing a crash helmet for double protection in my photo GETS the cheese !!!

Oh, awesome post, Gary!  One thing that came to mind is the neat-as-a-pin homes can sometimes have hidden defects--ALWAYS inspect!  Okay, so I know that's not giving the benefit of the doubt but, just sayin'!

Hope you and yours enjoy a wonderful Memorial Day weekend...

Debe: Those hidden defects you are right pop up in the most beautiful of homes, even new construction which reminds us that inspection should be mandatory. Have a great weekend.

Robert: Thanks bud....   : )   HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY.

HI GARY!  Such great wisdom again!  I have friends, one is a top neurosurgeon - her husband - a lawyer.  I've seen first hand how much the "inexperienced" are missing by not taking the time to get to know them for who they are - because they are making assumptions based on what my friends are wearing.

Congratulations Gary on becoming an Ambassador..

I like quotes also.  Try this one:   Indecisiveness-------  is the key to flexibility.

or  May my agents never utter these words:  "We the willing, led by the unknowing, are trying to do the impossible for the ungrateful.

How true it is. When I go out to make a large purchase I intentionally dress like a bum (my preferred and comfortable choice anyway, just to see the reaction and how I will be treated. I have watched a lot of people lose out on large commissions from prejudging me... the newbie who was forced to greet me had a good day.

I am sure I am not the only one who does this.

Good post and words of wisdom

Gabrielle: You do have to get to know people as people not as their titles or whatever in your mind you are assuming.

William: Getting negative and prejudging out the chute, big mistake.

Ken: NOW I know why I get indecisive - to be flexible LOL. I like the other one too.

US Mortgages: Be smart, take time with people, be kind, those large commissions will hence follow and referrals.

You never know who you are talking to and what opportunity you could be throwing away by prejudging!  What a great post, I suggested!

Great lesson about prejudging people. We have all been guilty of assuming something because of the appearance.

Gary,

Well said, I like to think outside the box, in Maui you can never judge someone by what they drive, or dress.  I had a client come in my office years back, and a agent ask who the bum was.  I just laughed, he was far from a bum, just tired of corporate life.  Plus you miss all the fun if you don't get to know some of these people.

I try very hard not to prejudge people but sometimes it's second nature. Half the time they live up to my expectations, and the other half of the time they don't. The one thing I do is pay attention to my gut instinct. It never steers me wrong.
