Curb Appeal When Selling Your Home

Real Estate Agent with BHG Real Estate - Kansas City Homes SP00229578 2007027091

When your home is for sale, one of the most important things you can do is to make the outside look so inviting that buyers want to come inside. That's called 'Curb Appeal.' Good curb appeal

The home pictured on the right, for instance, has an inviting walk leading up to the front door. The owners have chosen blue hydrangeas to draw your eye up the flower-lined walkway. A variety of shrubs and trees add interest to the attractive home. If you were lookng for a home to buy, wouldn't you want to see inside this one?

Curb appeal is something home owners can address as they live in the home - don't wait until you decide to move!

The house itself needs to be well maintained and painted in attractive colors. Fences and driveways are also part of your home's curb appeal.

Flowers, shrubs, trees and lawn are a part of your home's curb appeal that can be improved every year. Just go to your local garden center every couple of weeks to see what plants are in bloom in your area. Add a few as your time and budget permit.

I also like curb appeal but my other half doesn’t because then there’s nothing for him to do outside, so we always look for crappy homes outside that have been renovate inside.

That's a lot of work you put into one post and you make it look so easy. I admire people like you who can do so much with graphics. Your blog post is terrific!

The curb appeal is so essential - it either draws people in or detracts their attention. I've seen beautiful homes with no curb appeal and simple small homes that weren't much to look at from the outside, but when they were all dressed up with the beauty of all the right landscaping, that made a better impression on me, than the big house that I know cost a lot more money!

I appreciate all the work you put into this post and I know others who read it will too.

Maria, your beautiful slide show brings you point home!  Great post!  I think you may have found the secret to not losing a post as it is uploaded.  I'm going to try your sequencing with my next post. Some of us are losing posts, as we upload.

Maria, i love it when there it's actually some thought behind the plantings. I used to have a great big Camellia Bush next to out front door, piles of big red flowers as long as the season went on. Always drew people to the door.

Maria: Too bad that some people don't enjoy this type of curb appeal while they live there. Then frantically make it look good when they try to sell it. I love my yard and feel proud of it every day. If I had to sell, I know people are already lined up to buy it, it has a good reputation.

I love showing homes with curb appeal like your photos. Makes the buyers excited about the interior of the home & makes a better overall impression.

Dear Maria,

Those are some nice homes. Choosing a variety of perennials as you live in your home makes getting ready to sell much easier, because you only need to fill in with a few annuals to add interest for the longer market times these days.

Curb appeal is very important when you are trying to sell your home. It's your first impression for your home. Buyers will make assumptions on what your home is like on the inside from the exterior appearance. It happens for sure in the Flagstaff real estate market. Great pictures!!

Nice post.  I read your directions on how you put the slide show together, but really didn't understand.  Anyway, the results are great.  I'll have to play with that description.

I missed this the first time around but the issue remains a critical one, and perhaps even more so today in this competitve market. Admitedly some people don't mind, especially if they have a vision or want to transform a yard but it can sure be a turnoff as people see how much work has to be done. And of course this leads to the assumption the rest of the home is eqully in need of help.

Great post and I totally concur! As a home stager we know the value and impact of that first impression. And since 80+ of buyers look on the internet first that first impression needs to be WOW from the outside in!  I have written an ebook Creating Curb Appeal That SELLS! and I would be happy to share it with anyone reading this post. Go to my facebook: and do a post asking for this ebook and I'll email it to  you so leave your email address!
