Celebrating RED Day Success at Cafe Hollander in Wauwatosa

By

Red DayThis morning is special, at long last we will present the check from our RED Day  event to Marie Kingsbury, the director of The Womens Center and we will joyfully announce that the washer and dryer that we had hoped to be able to replace with reconditioned commercial equipment, can be purchased brand new along with a dishwasher, installation, delivery and a residential washer and dryer for the residents use.  We are soooo excited ! This celebration will take place  right near the neighborhood we used to live in before moving to Waukesha countyWauwatosa (pronounced WOW a Toe Sa) is a charming westside suburb that is many early 20th century homes filled with what we call "old world charming" touches...arched doorways, wide oak woodwork, hardwood floors, built in buffets and bookcases, stained glass piano windows....lots of warmth and personality in this community and the home to the Medical College of Wisconsin...a convenient location...minutes from downtown with a great school system, wonderful parks, and the Village invites you to little shops, restaurants and picture post card views of the Menominee River and all nature has to offer.
Cafe Hollander  We agreed that Cafe Hollander would be the perfect setting for our celebration.  The Cafe is located in the heart of the Village of Wauwatosa at 7677 West State Street.  State Street is "main street" to this area and it is dotted with shops and one of a kind appetizing opportunities to dine, relax and sample cuisine you may not likely find in other parts of the greater Milwaukee/Waukesha area. The forecast looks to be as perfect as we could plan it...temp in the mid seventies....we have the option of having our brunch al fresco at the umbrelled cafe tables.
The Cafe offers a Sunday brunch with tantalizing menu items including Napolean Dynamite, ( a pancake tower layered with applewood smoked bacon, two fried eggs and Belgian beer sauce served with whipped cream and maple syrup)...an assortment of omlets including the Green Torpedo featuring spinach, basil, feta and goat cheese and their own menu of Bloody Marys and Mimosas including The Frenchie...French vodka, dijon mustard and a bleu cheese stuffed olive in tomato juice...mmmm breakfast of champions !

Bier Cafe Hollander is known for their selection of Bier and glasses to match because....as their website says:
"Bier in Belgium is not just a beverage – it is an experience. Many, if not most, breweries and specific types of bier have their own glass. Glass shape can greatly affect aromatic presentation, head formation, even how well carbonation will be sustained. The ideal in these areas varies from beer to beer, thus so do the glasses. And in Belgium, you’d never serve bier in the wrong glass – it would lessen the experience. Café Hollander subscribes to that same theory, keeping well over 40 different glasses behind the bar to ensure that your Belgian bier experience is the best it can be."

Cafe Hollander is open:Monday - Thursday 8am-1am .Friday 8am-2am, Saturday 9am-2am, Sunday 9am-1am
. In addition to their brunch and Bier menu, they have gluten free selections, appetizers, sandwiches, seafood....lots of culinary surprises to trip your tastebuds and keep you coming back to sample more of their menu....and drink in the atmosphere of the Village of Wauwatosa.
You need not have to wait for a celebration occasion...Come and enjoy this taste of Belgium....and if you decide that the greater Milwaukee area....and the Village of Wauwatosa is somewhere you would like to call home...Call the Hansons....we promise to be the tour guides you need for all things real estate in Wisconsin.  Bon Appetite and Welcome to Wauwatosa !

Your places and cities have interesting names.  Are they Indian words?  If not, what is the origin?

Red Day was a great success...and we are already planning for next year...Yes Jay...we have lots of cities....I would guess most have Indian origins...you peaked my curiousity...apparently Badger staters have a problem deciding what tribal translation fits:

Term: Wauwatosa [origin of place name]

Definition: Wauwatosa, or "the great walker," a noted Indian chief of the vicinity.  Another source interprets the name to mean "lightning bug" or "dim of memory" from the word wawatosi.  The Ho-Chunk word pronounced in a similar way means "I grabbed something".
