Fishers Indiana history - Kincaid House

Kincaid House Fishers IndianaSeveral months ago (note the snow-covered ground!) the Haddad Team sponsored a contest challenging our blog followers to identify this Fishers Indiana landmark. The first person to tell us the correct location of this lovely old brick building would win a Panera gift card. If they could also give us a brief history of the building we were prepared to throw in two Mike's Car Wash coupons.

The location was no problem, and we had a winner almost immediately! The history of the building was trickier, though. No one (including us!) seemed to know much about it. Happily, just a few days ago we came across the information we'd been looking for!

According to the magazine 8 Great Towns, a guide to Hamilton County, the old farmhouse on 106th Street just west of Lantern Road was built nearly 150 years ago, when Fishers was nothing more than a wide expanse of farm fields. It was purchased by the Kincaid family (owners of Kincaid Meat Market in Indianapolis) in the 1930s and stood as the main house on the Kincaid Farm. The building has been empty for about 30 years and is currently for sale. It's in an area zoned for commercial use... Wouldn't it make a wonderful gift and home interiors shop?

So there you have it: the mystery of a bit of Fishers history - solved!

I would have had a hard time just identifying what the white stuff was.  Doesn't snow much around here.  Fun post.

This house could be on a post card!  My son is going to Notre Dame.  When I drove through your area, I was amazed by the charm it had for such a large city.

Love these old stately homes - so beautiful and filled with history. Hard to believe it was empty for 30 years - what a shame. Great idea for a contest - very fun!

Pat  It would be a downright shame if that building wasn't maintained in a manner that preserved its' dignity or, for that matter, be demolished.  I hope it has protection as a hustoric landmatk

Pat, it is fun to discover the history behind old buildings.    Some older buildings have some REALLY interesting history!

Hi Pat, my mother has been studying geneology for over 40 years.  She comes down from the Kincaids on her mother's side.  Very interesting house and history.

Cheryl--With the 94 degree heat of the last few days, we don't have any of the white stuff either!

Navona--It was amazing how quickly we had a winner!

Sondra--I

Kristine--I would love to see inside!

Karen--I would like to think there would be some pretty loud protests if anyone threatened destruction!

Joan--And ghosts too!

Joni--Now you know you would not stand much of a chance of winning----unless you plan a trip to Indiana!  Please do!

Judith---I wonder if it is the same Kincaids...

Hi Pat,

What a neat idea for a contest.  That is such a beautiful house; I love the architecture.  It is so hard to find the history of some places; we have run into that problem here in Southeastern PA.  Glad you found out.
