THE best nursery in San Diego is....

Fuchsia at Mission Hills Nursery

...just a couple of miles from your Mission Valley condo, and it also has Mission in the name, making it easy to remember.

It's Mission Hills Nursery at 1525 Fort Stockton Drive in Mission Hills!

Kate Sessions, the Mother of Balboa ParkMission Hills Nursery was founded in 1910 by Kate Sessions (1857-1940), a horticulturist and landscape architect who introduced many plants to San Diego, particularly to Balboa Park, which could be why she is affectionately known as the "Mother of Balboa Park."

I discovered Mission Hills Nursery not long after I came to
San Diego in 1988. I was looking for a plant for my patio and a
co-worker recommended Mission Hills Nursery. I bought a fuchsia like that in the top picture because it was so beautiful. Not being a gardener, my fuchsia didn't last very long.

Mission Hills NurseryNot to worry because I make several trips each year to Mission Hills Nursery to buy fuchsias, cyclamens, ferns, succulents, petunias, and various hanging baskets. Not being a gardener (did I already say that?), my plants don't last very long. Nowhere on my hands is there a green thumb, but I do my best, and I'm sure Mission Hills Nursery appreciates my regular returns for more plants!

Green thumb or brown thumb, Mission Hills Nursery can help you with virtually any plant — bedding plants, hanging plants, vegetables, fruit trees, garden designs, orchids, cactus, fuchsias (you knew I was going to throw that in there!), succulents, native California plants....

Mission Hills NurseryThe very knowledgeable and very helpful staff go out of their way to make sure you're satisfied with Mission Hills Nursery. They know everything there is to know about their plants.

Anything you want, you can find it at Mission Hills Nursery: pest control, organic gardening, gardening tools and gloves, t-shirts, water keepers, pots, wind chimes, garden ornaments, and more. They also have a huge collection of seed packets for those who like to watch the little plants poke their heads out of ground and reach for the sky!

They even have their own kitty cat. I believe her name is Reina:

Reina, the Mission Hills Nursery resident cat

How can you not want to shop at a nursery where an adorable cat walks around with you and gives you her advice?

Here are some more pictures of the beautiful nursery and the beautiful plants:

Ready to sell your San Diego home? Mission Hills Nursery can help you install some plants to provide that all-important curb appeal. Landscaping is by far the least expensive way to "upgrade" your home and get the best return on your investment. If you just bought a house in San Diego, Mission Hills Nursery is the place to go to get plants for both inside and outside to turn that house into YOUR HOME! Tell them that Jim Frimmer, your Mission Valley Realtor, sent you their way!

Need help with your real estate sale or purchase? I'm available! Give me a call or send me an email.

Of course, I have to end with another picture from Mission Hills Nursery of my favorite flower, the fuchsia:

I love nurseries this time of year.  Fuchsia's are one of my favorite as well.  In fact I went and bought two of them on Sunday after someone blogged the other day (might have been RR).  Can't wait for them to bloom!

Hi Jim, I love the flowers and the cute cat with the gold eyes. I guess it would be great to know the plants native to your state so you could know the ones that are used to your specific weather conditions.

Jim,  San Diego is beautiful with the work that Kate Sessions is famous for.  If this is a nursery she founded I would definitely go to this nursery.  Thank you for the information....and I know the residents in Mission Valley are also appreciative!

Mission Hills Nursery is my kind of place. I could get lost in the pots, let alone the great flowers and plants.

Hi Jim,

I love a good nursery, I could wander around them for hours.  I get so inspired but then I get my plants home to find I don't have a very green thumb, but I do have rabbits with voracious appetites.

Jim,

Looks like a wonderful place to visit, and we love fuschias also.  One of the hotels in town has a lovely row of fuschias growing along the side of the building.  They are varied colors and each one is more beautiful than the previous one.  Love your picture, have a great day! A

Hi Jim, you did a wonderful job on this post about the Mission Hill's Nursery.  All of the pictures are nice, but I do like their cat.  She's not Zoey, but she is cute.
