Network Groups

By
Mortgage and Lending with Secure Financial Center

Not just hobnobbing at the Chamber or Rotary, but goups specifically established for business referrals - do you belong to one?  A good referral goup that encourages personal and professional growth is worth its weight in gold, no matter how much the members weigh!

A 60 second commercial in a friendly group makes delivery to someone out in the real world much easier.  Instead of, Uh, well, hm, I work for...then the room gets hot, bang you're ready because you've done it plenty of times.

Public speaking becomes easier, too, after performing before friendlies.

Plus, where else can you hire a sales staff for so cheap?!

Of course, if you're in my area, they don't work.  Only loan officers waaay far away from me are encouraged to join.

A couple of places to seek a group out are:  LeTip and BNI

Hi Tom:  I belong to a BNI group and it's starting to make sense.  Like anything else (Chamber, Rotary, etc.), the more you participate and give, the more you receive.  I highly recommend being part of a networking group(s), especially these days.  Take care.

Anyone (else) in online groups? Besides Active Rain, I am relatively active with (mortgage) brokeroutpost.com as well as fastpitchnetworking.com

also on linked in, and jigsaw but not as active there.

BNI worked well for me in my past life as an insurance guy, but tough to find a group that doesn't already have a mortgage person, so I would need to start another group from scratch. Same with local Chamber leadshare groups. There's just TOO DAMN MANY mortgage people running around still, although the numbers are dropping rather quickly.

Brian, not too active in other groups; as I've found it's easy to get sucked into spending a lot of time on them.  Sure, I learn a lot, but after a while I have to look at the ROI.  Keep checking the web sites for BNI and LeTip, as well as contacting the leads.  You never know!

Lewis, ours is a nonprofit.  Fortunately we had a bookkeeper who was familiar with the nonprofit side of it.  Other than that, adopt some of the materials you can find on line or the two I've mentioned.  Biggest thing is get recruiting!  Meet once a week, meet individually outside of the group, get to know one another, have a structure to the meetings, keep them timely and focused and keep adding quality people.  Don't let members occupy more than one chair, ie, a life insurance guy can't be the financial planner.  Get at it!

There is no better way to spend a hour of your week in generating more business that you will from your networking group.  Get in one, start one, what ever.   Just do it!

BNI is a great program, but is not for everyone.

Remember you will get out what you put in.  Don't go to get leads, go to give leads and you will get leads.

My networking group meets every 2 weeks....and although I do not get any leads from it...It is a huge moral boost for everyone involved! A GREAT way to start the day!
