Fireworks in Austin TX - Canceled due to Drought

Fourth of July Fireworks have been canceled throughout most of the Austin TX areas. We are under a burn ban because of the current drought conditions and the Austin Fire Department as well as the Travis County Fire Marshall is denying all permits for fireworks shows.

austin tx fireworks The main one in Austin TX sponsored by the Austin Symphony will still play music and do a show. They're thinking maybe laser, but they're also prepared to submit another permit request if we get some rain between now and then.  I don't think it's likely since the forecast is called for all triple digits this week, with not a drop in sight, and summer isn't even officially here yet!!

People are comparing the current drought to the 2009 drought, and we're in much worse shape today than we were then. I'm really not looking forward to a miserable summer if it's like 2009!!

My daughter is now 3 1/2, and I thought this was the year that I was going to allow her to stay up late and see her first show in person. I guess we'll sit on the balcony and see what happens around town, and we'll venture out next year... was so looking forward to the Hill Country Galleria's celebration on the 2nd.

By the way, if you are wanting to buy your own fireworks, sales are still allowed in Travis, Williamson, Hays, and Bastrop counties, but they've all agreed to not start selling until July 1 instead of their usual June 24. They're all taking a huge hit because we can't get any rain around here!!

Donna - WOW they know already it will be too dry...?  That stinks, but then again, looking at our raging wildfires in NE AZ, I kind of get it.....

Sharon, It's been too dry for weeks. Texas has had tons of wild fires. A pretty bad one about 10 minutes from my house!

That will take part of the fun out, but we want it safe than sorry for sure.

I know its sad when your favorite firework shows don't take place, but with the weather conditions, can't blame the authorities for doing the right thing.  Our neighborhood usually sponsors one, have not heard anything yet on whether or not it will take place.

Donna

Sorry to hear that, Florida may be right behind you in canceling the fireworks.

Good luck and success.
