The Mother Came Out In A Huff And Really Yelled At Me

Real estate brings the business world right to the seller's front door. The product IS the front door and the rest of the property. Sometimes it seems that this process is all too detached from the human side of life.

Jay Markanich, a home inspector from the other end of the country has captured my attention not only for his technical capabilities and his ability to present them in very understandable articles, but also for his humor and presentation of the light side of real life.

This article of his is one of those human.... er... real life stories that brightened my day and Jay has graciously permitted me to replay it here just for you. Thank you Jay.

Enjoy!

It started no differently than all home inspections.

I arrived early, put my tool kit on the front porch beside the door, and here the small hibiscus tree, and started looking at the outside of the house.

As I was walking off the front porch, the mother came out and, fairly viciously, attacked me.  I have never been treated like that before on a home inspection.

Screaming she got in my face.  All I wanted to do was my home inspection.  She was relentless!

Surely I wasn't impolite and I didn't yell back.

All I did was duck my head and continue to walk toward the side of the house.  Was that impolite?

After a moment she backed off and flew away.  Did I say flew away?

Eventually my clients arrived, but there was safety in numbers.  The mother didn't contest the group.

When we got back onto the porch, we saw what had mother robin so upset.

We were able to stand there, have a peek, and then enter the house, unmolested.

The mother didn't come back when I took the photo, but I didn't linger!

The seller says they pull that hibiscus into the house every fall and return it to the porch every spring.

And this same robin comes back every year to build a new nest and lay eggs.  She has done it for years!

LOL, Brad! He had me going for a moment there. Just another one of those job hazards we face!
