Why Can't We All Get Along, Be Professionals and Do Our Job?

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker Pinnacle Properties, Florence Alabama

Why can't we all get along, be professionals and do our job?  In a typical real estate transaction there are no lessFlorence Al Real Estate than 13 people involved.  Those people include the seller, buyer, seller's Realtor, buyers Realtor, mortgage person, lender, underwriter for lender, appraisor, appraisal management co, home inspecter, pest inspecter, title company, closing atty.  It is VERY IMPORTANT that we all work together toward the common goal...get the transation closed.  The key to success is for EVERYONE to do their job.  If just one person fails to do their part, it causes the whole transaction to stop.

Sure we all feel like we are jumping through hoops sometimes, but that is part of the business in today's world.  We need to learn to leave our bad attitudes and personal vendettas at home.  We may not agree with what is being asked of us...but usually there is a good reason for the request.

Call me crazy, but when I know others are depending on me, it makes me want to do the very best job that I can.

When you are ready to buy or sell a home in Florence AL or The Shoals Area call me.  I will assist you every step of the way and make sure EVERYONE involved is doing their part to reach the goal....the closing table.  You can reach me by phone - 256-366-6292, or by email - karen.poss@coldwellbanker.com. Karen, This was perfect.  We are all trying for the same goal.  So being confrontational gets you nowhere.

Thanks.

I agree with you completely. My broker recently had a transaction with an agent that was so into being "in charge" and wanting to "control" the transaction, and she wasn't very nice about it, that she forgot about the inspection objection deadline.

On the other hand, I just closed my first commercial transaction. It was a lease to own. It was so great to deal with a reasonable buyer and a reasonable seller. We went back and forth once and both parties came to an agreement. Everyone was happy and worked together. It was a beautiful thing.

Unfortunately, for some people, there is no other way to be.  All you can do is your job to the best of your ability and hope that the professionals around you are committed to doing the same.

Take a break or two when needed.   Don't fly off the handle and remember you may need them on your side sooner than later.   It is good to keep a level head and always follow up!!!!

You are right Don.  Confrontational = stressful for everyone involved.  It just doesn't have to be that way.

Debbie, It makes for such a more pleasant experience when everyone works together.  I guess you have to experience the bad to appreciate the good.

The key is always to that email in drafts and read it in the morning. Most of the time, you will rewrite before you hit send. I am sure tabs we all feel better when we can rant and scream, but in the interest of making a smooth transaction, we need to keep our claws where they belong and look out for what is best for the clients. Great post!

Karen you are spot on, I am always concerned when the ego of the other players gets in the way of a Transaction, what annoys me most is when the clients are cool and then there is one ego maniac agent on the other side.....

The Banks and the Underwriters are not interested in getting along.

Occasionally, I encounter a "Prima Donna" Real Estate Agent, or an Agent that wants to play Hardball.

If these people would stop being such jerks, more deals would make it to closing!

Karen - My mom always taught me to NOT SPEAK in the heat of the moment.  One of lifes greatest lessons that we all should take to heart.

Endre - it's sad when the client has to calm their agent.  Being professional and a good negotiater doesn't mean being an ego maniac.  There is a BETTER way!

Fred - Ding Ding Ding!!! You win the prize!  UNDERWRITERS - no they don't want to get along. BUT, if we want to get paid, we do what they ask...nicely.  Others are depending on us to get them to the closing table.

It's so easy for ruffled feathers to get the best of someone.... especially under stress. If we all would step back sometimes and shake our feathers before entering a conversation or room it would go a long ways. I love your post!

Thanks Lindsey!  We should all realize how our reactions have such an effect on others.  It DOES matter!
