We can bitch, but we can also elect.

If I am not mistaken, it was my sophomore year of college when I was posed with a question.  It was of a general nature in the only writing class I ever took in college.  I was asked who I was voting for in the Presidential Race.

I voted Perot, twice.  Now, had my vote become a reality ... well, who knows what the present would now hold.  And when I told that class the answer, the brilliant retorts of "Wasted Vote" wept like a cloud on a rainy day.  I thought them moronic because I wasn't voting Perot to take away from the Democrats or give to the Republicans or vice versa.  I didn't even vote Perot because he brought up the whole National Debt thing.  I voted Perot because I had that uncanny notion that monopolies were not looked upon nicely in our world.  And here we are ... living in one, Politically.

Democrats, Republicans, Liberals, Conservatives, it all reminds me of how boxed in we now are.  Don't get me wrong.  I still think this is the best of the rest as far as the rest of the species are governed, however we've had Clinton & Bush for some 18 years before the half-white guy got the nod.

We are as inconsistent as we are smart about things.  The Far Right will tell the tale about small government and then start probing into your bedroom and your womb and your recreational habits like a storm trooper under Darth Vader's control.  And the Far Left, well they are a live and let live bunch unless it steps into the freeloading sector and they have no qualms about wearing a bleeding heart for the person that is about to stab you right there.  No sense for the cents ... those "Libs".

And the moderate (left or right) will sit with a stapled smile, tempered grin, and stirred soul.  While the loudest voices continue to get recognized through a culture who grants TMZ a journalistic gateway, critical thinking rears its unpopular little head.

But it isn't always about electing who is running, maybe we need to start electing on the size of the ideas (and implementation thereof) and not the pocketbook.  Maybe we need to take the Democrats, Republicans (and their Tea Party constituents who couldn't think up an original name for their cause) and let them know that a New Sheriff is Around.

This New Sheriff may say:

"I hope you can think for yourself."

Critical Thinking is not a lost art, but the factors that stimulate such are suspect these days.  I always preferred my entertainment to be just that ... entertainment.  At best, loosely mocking the reality of it all.  At worst, loosely mocking the reality of it all.  But to sit back and watch or read an agenda that claims to be any version of the truth and then to also claim they aren't entertainment, but journalistic entities ... makes me almost rationalize the drugs of the 60's.

And here we are in 2011 and it is the same game, different faces, similar voices trying to figure out whether the squirrel is looking for the nut or if the nut makes the squirrel.

I still think this is the best of the rest as far as the rest of the species are governed, however we have a long way to go before we elect Ross Perot President of this great nation.

Well, I too, will NEVER AGAIN pay expensive prices for electronic garbage at stupid stores! If we elected better people in the first place, we wouldn't have to worry about stuff like this. Sheesh!

Sardi - I didn't vote for Perot, nor Clinton, nor Bush (HW) did a write in for Stormin' Norman. My only disagreement with your assessment of the Far Left, they are only for live and let live if you are in agreement with them. They want to control different aspects of our lives than the Far Right does, but, they both want to control. But, like you intimated (ok, you more than intimated, but I just wanted to use that word in a sentence today), we might not have the best form of government, but it is the best that is available in the world right now.

Hey, you left out libertarians. We don't want to control anyone, except politicians.

Fish heads are not very rolly poly, they are usually kind of flat. I might have to take one to a movie just to see if I get more space opening up around me.

Like Mike stated, both sides want control, they just want to control different aspects of our lives.  The smartest person isn't always the best for a job; they have to know how to implement their ideas, which means knowing how to manipulate people and the system.  So instead we get the mediocre politicians with great manipulation skills; and worst of all, the masses (sheep) follow them.

It's sad to say but this is human nature, it doesn't matter what country you are in, although I agree with you that ours is the best to choose from.

I love the way you write and express yourself.

I think I may be a Libertarian (Lane Bailey & Mike Saunders called me out on that awhile ago).  But if John Stossel is the voice of that movement in the Media, I would suggest a serious look into changing the voice of that movement in the media.

And thank you, Lois.

And what happened to Carol's comment?  I certainly didn't delete the spam!  Where exactly did the electronic garbage go?  And why do I start so many sentences with the word "And"?

Love the comments in total, by the way.

Sardi - not sure who the voice is of (small l) libertarianism (big L is a party member). Stossel is one of the voices, Neal Boortz certainly another, but two entirely different people. Then their is Ron Paul. libertarians are a diverse group, often at odds with themselves. Those that don't understand call us anarchists, but rather than no government it is limited government. Yes, we recognize that there are roles for gov't, but not broadly. It certainly doesn't belong in any behavioural control, other than that which is universally accepted as criminal.

Guess the spam filter caught up with Carol's comment.

As long as there is enough free ice cream to hand out in a two party system there will never be any real change.  If (or maybe when) our deficit spending gets cut off by lack of foreign investment, we will find out the hard way just what the meaning of Austerity is.  Until that day comes, Americans will continue on without a care, and wonder just what it was that inspired those Egyptians to call a general strike?

Ron - I think from a Fiscal Perspective, we are in total agreement.

Saunders - They need a voice.  They really do.  Paul doesn't cut the mustard and neither does Stossel.  I love that libertarians are a diverse group and healthy debate is very healthy most of the time.  Yup, maybe I'm a Liberatarian (you may have turned me, Mike;) ... or just an ideaological version of Bruce Lee when it comes to governing the human condition as we know it.  Take what works ... use it.  Take what doesn't and throw it away.  NO Party is the only Party to be affiliated with.

...... and I think, I start too many sentences with 'so', or 'anyway'!   So, anyway, what if, Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman (the 'ch' to be pronounced with lots of phlegm) really are Democratic Operatives?  Wouldn't it be very Clintonesque (whom I think are very smart people) to insert at least three Ralph Naders into the Republican Party.   Also, the Republicans can't fire Michael Steele (who is spending every penny he can on his first class travelling and other personal expenses), so, anywa, they can't fire him because he's the only minority in the entire party.....   So, I'm just saying, anyway..

Tom - Get over it, man.  'So' & 'Anyway' are right up there with 'Fuck' as the most useful words in English Dialect.

Georgia - To reiterate, "We are as inconsistent as we are smart about things. There is no other note on this particular post, I really miss a species that can think for themselves and not tie themselves into a particular party and/or ideology without at least being "Fair & Balanced" about it within their heart, mind, and soul.  I rarely see that from either faction.  Which makes yours truly not want to be part of either faction.

Still, I believe we are the best governed Nation on this Planet in a Galaxy we may or may not know.  So we are lucky.  We are lucky enough to be able to question/make fun of/and make light of the very folks we help put into office and gladly work for each day of our lives.  Part of me says that if I ever see a day where I'm not bitching about something, something may be terribly wrong.  And I don't mean the lack of a heartbeat.

We voted for hope, change, and bringing the nation together, but all we got was another Chicago politician.  That's what makes voting for ideas so fruitless.  Of all the candidates who have received my vote, only those who lost the election failed to disappoint me.  It takes a special kind of person to win more than half of the votes, and I don't mean that in a good way.

Shucks.  I voted for Perot in 1992

I love to read the press when they criticize all of the candidates that are vying for whom will run against Obama.

Fact is, anyone the GOP nominates will get my vote.  I don't really care who wins the Rebublican nomination.

At this point, Taddeous McCotter is welcomed.  Love that guy.

For good old Wale Adewoyin above.

We are NOT a Democracy.  We are a Republic.  Big difference.  While we have a democratic form of government, when politicians try to turn our Republic into a Democracy, we begin to sink into the abyss that strangles Europe.

OK Jason:  This thing has slowed down, so I think I'll throw out some stuff to get it going again... and... to give you folks someone to batt around and make fun of.

The only "outsider" I voted for was George McGovern in 1972.  Perot had some great ideas, and some that were not so great.  But the problem was you didn't know who was going to be in the bus with him if he ended up driving into the White House.

Like the last eletion in 2008.  Palin was/is a goof.  McCain... not too bad.  BUT... if they had won, first of all... if McCain dies... you end up with President Palin.  What a friggin' disaster.  But the real problem would have been who else would have been in the bus if McCain/Palin had ended up driving it into the White House.

We would have ended up with McConnell in a cabinet position... maybe more.  DeMint in a cabinet position ?  Gawd, what a mess he could make... doing to the entire country what he has done to South Carolina.  Maybe even get the USA well on the way to a Theocracy.  Maybe they'd end up with folks like Gary Bauer ripping the Health and Human Services apart.  Maybe put another fundie in charge of the Department of Education... who would first "gut" it, and then hasten its demise.

Heck, we might even have ended up with Sheriff Joe as head of the FBI.  It's not only the guy (or woman) who drives the bus... it's everyone else who comes in with it.

That is why now... the only Republican candidate I would vote for... is John Huntsman.  He seems to have a level head.  AND... if he were running as an independent... I might vote for him.  But as a Republican... no way... none.  He would be reasonable, and prolly do a good job... but if he brings a busload of loonies with him... from the ultra-conservative Republicans and the Tea Party... what a mess.

In some ways... I almost wished that McCain/Palin would have won.  The recession/depression... the seeds for which were planted by President Cheney and Vice-President Bush... would have even been worse... and the WhiteHouse would have been a lock for Hillary in 2012.  Now... Obama is the butt of all the ultra-conservative and Tea Party venom.  It's almost become sort of a "party game" for the Theocrats.

So... if there is a mainstream Independent... and I said "mainstream" Independent candidate... not another fundie... my lesser of the two evils of Obama against Romney, or Bachmann, or Rick Perry of Texas... (what an absolute shambles he would make of things)... then yes, the lesser of those evils... President Obama... would get my vote.  By default... I understand... but if those are the choices... he will cause less damage.

But still... I surely wish we would have a mainstream... not from the far right or the far left... but a true Independent candidate WITH some experience... but assuming that will not happen (the far right will bar-b-que Huntsman)... then it's Obama.

And to Lenn... HA !  In view of what I said about who would go into the White House along with Romney or whomever... my choice would be... anyone the Democrats nominate.  They will get my vote.  The folks in the rest of the Democratic bus will cause much less damage than those in the right-wing Republican Theocracy's bus.  Hopefully an independent like Huntsman will run in a VIABLE third party, and neither of us will have a concern.

@ Karen Anne - I'll answer you pretty quickly.  I can't see me voting for anybody but him (Obama) in the next election.  I don't think, believe, or answer to the folks who think the man is far left ... because they are more times than not, far right.  I could personally do without them both.  They are a reality and so is TMZ ... I am superficial enough to lump them into the same group.

The republicrats and the Democans are interchangeable parts.  Until we allow real people to run for government, not on their ability to raise money, but on their ability we will never advance.  We NEED multiple parties, with all the equal media time.  Our 2 party system is BROKE.

Our original government had to handle 13 colonies, BFD compared to 50 states, territories and a worldwide interconnected system.

I enjoy your posts, only half as much as your comments.

Remember, not only did you contribute to Social Security but your employer did too. It totaled 15% of your income before taxes. If you averaged only 30K over your working life, that’s close to $220,500. If you calculate the future value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer’s contribution) at a simple 5% (less than what the govt. pays on the money that it borrows), after 49 years of working (me) you’d have $892,919.98. If you took out only 3% per year, you receive $26,787.60 per year and it would last better than 30 years, and that’s with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit! If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you’d have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month. The folks in Washington have pulled off a bigger Ponzi scheme than Bernie Madhoff ever had.

Entitlement my ass , I paid cash for my social security insurance!!!! Just because they borrowed the money , doesn't make my benefits some kind of charity or handout !! Congressional benefits , aka. free healthcare , outrageous retirement packages , 67 paid holidays , three weeks paid vacation , unlimited paid sick days , now that's welfare , and they have the nerve to call my retirement entitlements !!!!!!.....scroll down..............

What the HELL's wrong??? WAKE UP AMERICA !!!!

Tuesday's Daily Bulletin paper, ran two articles on the front page side by side :

1- Calif 's 20 Billion Dollar Budget Deficit

2- The Calif Supreme Court ruling that ILLEGALS can attend college and get benefits.

Why don't they just deport them when they arrive to register?

3- Last year they ran an article on the yearly costs to Calif Taxpayers from Illegals using Hospital Emergency Rooms for their general health care -

At just one hospital the cost to tax payers totaled over 25 million a year

Someone please tell me what the HELL's wrong with all the people that run this country!!!!!!

We're "broke" & can't help our own Seniors, Veterans, Orphans, Homeless etc.,???????????

In the last months we have provided aid to Haiti , Chile , and Turkey . And now Pakistan ......home of bin Laden. Literally, BILLIONS of DOLLARS!!!

Our retired seniors living on a 'fixed income' receive no aid nor do they get any breaks while our government and religious organizations pour Hundreds of Billions of $$$$$$'s and Tons of Food to Foreign Countries!

They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for it all our working lives and now when its time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place?

We have hundreds of adoptable children who are shoved aside to make room for the adoption of foreign orphans.

AMERICA: a country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed hungry, elderly going without 'needed' meds, and mentally ill without treatment –etc. etc.

YET.....................
They have a 'Benefit' for the people of Haiti on 12 TV stations, ships and planes lining up with food, water, tents clothes, bedding, doctors and medical supplies.

Imagine if the *GOVERNMENT* gave 'US' the same support they give to other countries.

Sad isn't it?
