Flowers to Attract Bees and Butterflies... Indian Paintbrush

By
Real Estate Agent with ProStead Realty

I am constantly looking for perennials to add to my butterfly garden.  Last year I planted a flat of Indian Paintbrush, for it is great for attracting bees and butterflies.  It has done great in the spot that I chose.  In fact it is almost as high as the tree that is behind it.

The mixture of the colors make it an eyecatching garden.

You can see how tall they are for share a bed with Cannas.  That is a 5 foot fence behind them so they have grown great this year.  What will they do next year?

Hi Sheila, growing up in Pennsylvania my mother had red Indian Paintbrush and they filled the hollow below our house.  They were beautiful.  i agree with you...the purple ones are beautiful.

Those are some beautiful purples! It reminds me of a meadow wildflower from my growing up days in central NY state.

Judith.  Thats funny.  I am always pulling out plants that attract bees.  I hate having them dive bomb me as I am working in the garden.

Hi Belinda....please...leave the plants that the bees love.  Our bees are disappearing and without bees we are in big trouble.  Have a great evening!

Hi Rob, I so enjoy my gardens and wish I had more time to spend working in them.  The heat makes it difficult.  Am enjoying the many blooms.  They are everywhere.  Have a great evening!

Hi Michele, thank you for your very kind comment.  I just planted a flat and had no idea of the colors.  In fact was expecting red for that was the color in PA.  Have a wonderful evening.

Judith.. These flowers are beautiful.  We don't have many butterflies here.  So, I have an idea.  What would you say to coming to CT.. and I'll take you out to dinner, if you plant flowers for me once you run out of room at your home? :)

Judith~

I am INSPIRED! But tell me, tell me...does this perennial require lots of sun? shade? and how did you encourage it's vibrant show?
