Google Plus. What's The Point?

I just got through tinkering around with Google +, Google's back at ya to Facebook. I like coffee and once in a great while I'll find the sanity to pay $4.00 for a cup at Starbucks. Now let's pretend across the street from that same Starbucks a Moonbucks were to open up. Same type of coffee, same feel only the sign and names of the coffee were different. Google + in my opinion looks like a lame copy cat of Facebook. Like a poor copy of a document ran through a cheap fax machine. Like the bread that comes in a white bag that costs 1/2 as much as the good stuff.

For me social media is an important part of my business and social sphere. I like referrals and connecting with new people as often as possible. Places like Facebook, Activerain and even Twitter take EFFORT. There's only so many places I'm willing to pour myself into.

Google + at a glance, is a tad bit boring. There, I said it. It lookslike a giant baked potato with no sour cream, cheese, chives, bacon, butter or even salt.

Many of the people on Google + are the same people I already network with on Activerian, Facebook, Twitter and even Linkedin. Why in the world do I need to open up a new profile and do all of this again with the same people at a different spot?

Can you imagine meeting me and my family at 7 different parks in one day to eat and talk? Perhaps we'd pick the nicest and best park to stay at.

Social Media Hot spots are like Night Clubs. They come.. every shows up .. and they close. The thrill of the new spot draws immediate attention, especially when you pitch exclusivity like Google + did. Only consumers and online social media users are growing more rapid with their ability to become disinterested faster than ever. And hasn't Google tried this a few times already? Consistency is more important to me than jumping around constantly looking for an easier route.

Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go open a MySpace account. Better yet.. I'm gonna go outside and get some sun dammit.

I haven't looked into it either.  So far no one has mentioned any enthusiasm about it.  I will wait and see how this takes off.  Never had a my space acct.

well, I guess we'll just have to wait to see where the party is, Greg.  I hope it stays at Facebook, but who really can predict the future?

I'm so overwelmed with all this new stuff I can hardly stand it.  I just started Twitter about a month or so ago,,,I can't keep up!  Sometimes I wish I lived in the horse and carriage days.  I miss the old times without internet and a cell phone.  And I'm only 31...

Greg ~ I, Karen admit to lurking you but today I decided to comment based on the title of your blog ~

How does anyone find the time to keep up with all of this social media and work, or better yet have any kind of social life..What is the point is exactly right! I just can't understand after roaming around for three days on Google + what the big deal is?? I love Active Rain and it's more than enough for me to keep up with this ~ Just not enough time in the day...spent six hours on the beach today relaxing and reading a hilarious book ~ We need to turn it off once in a while, don't we??  *suggested* (but I'm positive others think Google + is fabulous)

You better have gone out and gotten some sun ~ dammit!!

I rather like it, but that is because a slew of the people I communicate with on Facebook made the migration. The worst criticism I've read about it is that it is Facebook with upgrades, and I posted yesterday that there are at least 7 things I can do on Google+ I can't do on Facebook.

Like Twitter and LinkedIn, it is a good place to syndicate your blogs posts and we'll see how it all pans out. But I like it a lot thus far.

It's exhausting!  We can only spread ourselves so far.  I like your analogy of going to all those different parks just to see the same people!

Hi Greg, I'm with ya on this one! I did sign up but haven't really investigated it. We can only have so many social media sites. If we utilize every single one, we won't get a lot of work done.

Only Time will tell, but i agree so far i don't see the point.  truth is thou, how much does this affect our ranking on google.  how much will it affect it, over time.  i've suggested this post.

I have not been on it, but received a few invites. From what I am hearing, its exactly as you say. Its a version of FB and could possibly replace Twitter. I even heard someone say they learned about Google+ because of twitter (go figure). Overall, its just another toy and it depends on where you want to spend your time.

Plus is one of those places that might take off and soar.  We'll just have to wait and see.  But in the meantime I think it's prudent to go ahead and set up profile and tinker till we see what's up!
