In the interest of developing more confident Homebuyers, we are going to attempt to describe, in regular English, what happens during an average Real Estate transaction, from start to finish.  This will be based upon the fifty plus years of combined experience between me and my husband Ralph.  We hope that you will enjoy the experience and have a greater comfort level in making your purchase as a result of reading this.  Please call us or your Realtor if you have questions about any part of the process.   Part 1 will run right through the entire transaction .  Then the subsequent chapters will deal with specific parts of the transaction in detail.

Part 1

If you have ever considered buying Real Estate, you will recall certain things people have told you;  that the most important factor to consider is “Location.”  This is because it is the one thing you cannot change.  It also will weigh on the appreciation value you will enjoy.  If the location is bad when you start out, the chances are that it will be bad or possibly worse when you decide to sell.

Although this sounds like an easy thing to determine, sometimes we have to consider what areas are affordable.  It is important that you find a location that makes you feel comfortable.  So what criteria should you look for in a neighborhood?

Does it have well manicured yards and beautifully maintained homes?   Will you be able to maintain your home in a similar manner?  Are you comfortable with that feeling?  Would you rather have a neighborhood where more creativity is shown?  How about more space between you and your neighbor?  Do you need to park an RV for part of the year?  All of these are questions you need to ask yourself about your lifestyle.  If you want for your home to appreciate at the highest rate, you probably need to find an area with an active homeowners association.  Homeowners associations see that covenants and restrictions are upheld.  It is a type of checks and balances to keep the values high.  One of the things you will want to check on when you find an area that feels like home is whether the restrictions or covenants are in force or if they have expired.  You will also want to read over the covenants to see that there will not be restrictions upon the life style you wish to live.  If the covenants will not allow you to have a home office, and you were planning to work from home, it would be good to know before you move into a situation that will not work for you.

If you want to have horses or lots of animals, you will be more comfortable having some wide open spaces around you.  Neighbors are further and farther away and if you have a dog who barks all day, there is less chance that neighbors will be annoyed.

Luckily there are an abundance of all kinds of neighborhoods all over the greater Houston area.  This allows for people to choose their lifestyle and their neighborhoods.

Great idea for your post and very helpful for the home buyer.  There is so much information to share with a home buyer I can just imagine how dizzy it must seem sometimes when you have never gone through the process.
