My Baby Comes Home Today from Summer Camp!

Today is the day that my 'baby' gets back from camp. Well,he's not quite a baby, but a 15 year old young man.

He has been away at Camp Twin Creeks, in Marlinton, WV for two weeks. Camp
Robbie at campTwin Creeks is a traditional coed Summer Camp.  This is his 5th year; he got a 5 year shirt this session.

Growing up, I always wanted to go to sleep-away camp, but it was never in the cards for my family.  When I had kids of my own, it was a priority for me to offer that experience to them. All three of my kids went to sleep-away camp. The girls went to the all-girls camp, Camp Rimrock Yellow Spring, WV (yes, they did not think it was fair that their brother got to go to a coed camp, but they got over it, eventually). They both enjoyed it, but never went for 5 consecutive years.

Getting their stuffMy son announced before he went this year that it would be his last. His letters home have indicated that he may be re-thinking his position. If he goes next year, he gets to be a Counselor-in-Training.  If he wants to go again, I will make sure he has the opportunity. It is a great, wholesome, old-fashioned way to spend the summer. Our teenagers grow up too fast, and I love that they get to go back in time a bit and be a kid at camp!

So today at 2:00 p.m., I will pick him up at the bus (yes, they take a bus to and from camp at Reston, Virginia's Isaac Newton Square--which just happens to be 5 minutes from my house!).  It will be great to have him home!

I have been watching his two week stint via the camp website where they regularly post photos and videos (as well as the daily schedule and news). As he has gotten older, he has gotten more adept at avoiding the spotlight of the camera, but I have still managed to find pictures of him.

I downloaded all the pictures and did a quick collage in Picassa that will give him a reminder of his time at camp.

I am off to the grocery store to stock up on 15 year old boy supplies and quantities of food.

It will be great to have my 'baby' back!

Holly, enjoy your day... as sad as it sounds-soon enough you will be watching him go out the door on his own forever~ I've gone through that with both my children; and as proud of them as you are...you can still feel your heart crumbling away...so ENJOY today and every moment!

Sounds like a fun place for kids, and that is a long time to be away at that age and younger.

Holly....overnight camp is such a great experience!  I always went to Girl Scout Camp for a week or two every summer.  My girls started going too when they were old enough.  My oldest does not go anymore - but found a theater camp in Maine to attend.  So she is going to be going for THREE weeks while the other 2 are going to Girl Scout camp for one week - the first of the three weeks she is gone!  I'm looking forward to it!

He looks like a really nice kid.  My 8 year old is off to camp for the first time next month.  Only 4 days and 3 nights, but I am worried about him already.

Thanks for all your 'welcome home' moments. All was great until he came down with the stomach flu yesterday--but better here than at camp!

Gene, it will be fine. It will be hard to send him away, but the time will fly--and he will have a BLAST!
