Do you still have “zeal” for your job, or are you just going through the motions every day?

By
Real Estate Agent with Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate Metro Brokers

Do you still have “zeal” for your job, or are you just going through the motions every day?Our work should offer us more than mere financial compensation. Fulfillment results from a zeal for what you do and the satisfaction that results from a job well done.

The real estate business has changed a lot over the last five years. In many aspects, it is an entirely different occupation that requires new skill sets and a lot more patience. And the truth is, a lot of agents no longer enjoy what they do and have an eye open for “something else.”

But when the economy slows down, it’s hard enough to change jobs let alone embark on a new career path. The level of risk becomes exaggerated by circumstances beyond our control.

But life is more than offers and closings. We still have to live every day and face each day with zeal rather than dread or apprehension.

“Going through the motions” day after day is a dismal existence. Life offers so much more.

That is, for those braves souls that are willing to rediscover passion for what they do!

Good morning Richard, great blog as it is so true.  If you do not have a passion for what you are doing, you should not be doing it - either for your self or your clients (in anything).  Thank you for sharing.

Good morning Richard,

I love what I do and find the new tools we have at our disposal make our job so much easier! Our area has swollen in ranks with Realtors because they think it is easy and they come and go. I don't spend any time on watching the fluctuation..through years of hard work I've made a niche and my business is strong. My family lives in Austin, my grand-kids are a delight, my husband is my best friend..life is good :)

I possess equal parts zest and zeal? Zest is perhaps best known to add flavor to different foods. My clients and customers tend to savor the experience. Food is such a celebration for those in Acadiana that we tend to think along culinary lines.

Richard, five years ago monkey's could sell real estate and be successful, these days it takes a larger commitment to be successful. Those that chose to continue will lead us in to the future of our business.

Good morning, Richard. To say that the real estate business has changed over the past few years is an understatement. I have seen many real estate businesses come and go...

Make it easy on yourself, "no zeal, no deal." If you lose you zeal for the business, you feel the pressure to make a buck! The customer can sense that and deals become harder to make. So reassess and get the zeal, it will be much easier to make that deal! Enjoy the day!

Purpose in life. Family first, volunteering in your community. But work if you are matched with the right skills for the profession should not cause the "just a job" feeling. Depression happens when tired, other factors in your personal life can weigh heavy on your mind and impact the job you do to buy the groceries, pay for kids college, etc. Reinventing real estate is what keeps you from getting comfortable, bored or looking in another pasture that may seem greened. Real love of real estate listing, marketing, selling happens regardless of how easy or tough the market is if you are well matched, in your right place.

I love my career and I still have a lot of zest left for it.  I feel a person can only be good at what they do if they enjoy their job.  otherwise they are just going through the motions and it is evident to everyone around them.  Time for a change.

Yes Real Estate has changed a lot, and it will continue to change over the next 5 years.  Those of us that stick it out, will be the successful ones in the end.

Have a fantastic Sunday.

Richard,

I consider my life so much more than my real estate career. I have much more zeal for the former, than the latter.

I used to tell my kids when they were small, "It's a lot more fun when you're having fun!" Zeal is a mindset. If we approach life with expectation, enjoy doing what we do... things will happen. I think the universe wants to support us. It doesn't know if what we say or think is good or bad. It simply supports us.

Richard: I see everyday agents enhancing their photos with blue skies, green lawns, etc.. I haven't done it but I do not see the problem in their doing same... I did laugh once when I heard an agent 'repainted' the house a different color.... taking it a tad too far... but I think I will have to r  up more on the rules and regs of our board....
