Garage Sales For Leads Part 1

I am going to try something different this weekend and actually go to garage sales. The obvious reason is to see if the people having the garage sale is looking to sell.  The second benefit is that there are people stopping buy to look, and you could get buyer's from the garage sale.  I would were my name badge and look around and then ask the homeowner if he/she is thinking about selling.

For me this is a great opportunity to spend time with my family. I have a 16 month old daughter and I would look at toys for her. I believe having my wife and daughter there is a great ice breaker. People are more receptive if you are there to buy something, instead of just asking them if they are looking to sell their home.

Let me know if anyone has tried this, and if you did, were you successful at it, and how did people react to you.
I will be following up with a part two next week and let everyone know how it went.

I think this is a good idea. I post yard sales in my blog when ever someone in my community e-mails me the information,  it is a great way of getting leads by giving back to the community.

I tried this once.  The owners were planning to sell, gave me a tour of the house along with a list of all the upgrades....They had another agent's card on the counter who had also spoken with them...Weeks later it was listed with a different agent.  Its been on the market since early spring so maybe I'm glad I'm not the listing agent. 

My point is-agents do use tag sales to solicit business and who knows-you may find a treasure or two while you're there.
