Having lived here in the Constitution State, as we are now known, all of my life, I thought I would share some of our states features with you all. When I was a child, we were known as the Nutmeg State, the slogan was changed to the Constitution State while I was in high school. At least, now, on our license tag plates that is what it reads. We border the Long Island Sound, the states of New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The capital of our state is Hartford. We were once known, also, as the insurance capitol of the world. Not sure if that is still so. The Aetna, the Hartford, Connecticut General and more insurance companies are located here.
We have many historical sites to visit. Mark Twain's Homestead in Hartford, Nathan Hale Homestead in Coventry, Rochembeau's Trail in Bolton, where his troops set up camp at the Bolton Center in 1781, many colleges and universities. President George W. Bush was born in New Haven, Ct and attended Yale University.
Our state tree is the white oak, state bird is the robin and the state flower is the mountain laurel.
Our newly re-elected Governor Jodi Rell is very personable and just this last weekend hosted an open house at the Governor's Mansion for the holidays.
