Journal Photographer to Receive Apology from State Police!

How many times have you seen this kind of headline?  "State Police hold Journal Photographer at Gunpoint."  It is a fact of life and one hopes it never happens.  But it is more common than people realize.  I have lived in Albuquerque for over 15 years; have been pulled over by the police at least 4 times, and without fail, it is always an uncomfortable situation. Usually, the situation is diffused when the officer receives a Military ID along with my Driver's License.

This case involving the Albuquerque Journal Photographer Adolphe Pierre-Louis is fascinating in light of the recent issues with the Albuquerque Police Department review and 19 police shootings by APD over the past year and a half.  .  It was a case of "Mistaken Identity."  The question I always ask is this, Is this "By the Book" approach applied across the board for all citizens?  If it isn't then there is a problem.

Mr. Pierre-Louis will receive an Apology from the New Mexico State Police

C Llloyd, 19 shootings in a year and a half, there is definitely something wrong going on there. That is an unusually hight number, dont you think

Lloyd - I can't believe the officer would even have his gun out, let alone make him get out of the car on his knees with no probable cause. There's so many things wrong here and I'm always disheartened when I hear stories like this because you know in all likelihood, the cop did this because of the color of his skin. I hope the cop gets fired and nothing about this sounds like it was "standard procedure". It wouldn't be acceptable in our state, however, cops seem to do whatever they please.

In my town, if you're a guy under the age of 25, the cops pull you over and search your car. This happens to my son, step-son and all his friends on a regular basis, again with no probable cause. Glad you're shedding light on this man's experience - this kind of treatment of law abiding citizens is unacceptable!

Good Evening Gerry:

It is an unusually high number.  The Feds have looked at it and there is wide public outcry about the killings.  It is high time that we have fair execution of the law.

Good Evening Kristine,

Thank you for your excellent comment.  I am a staunch supporter of Law Enforcement, I believe that like firefighter and other first responders, they are vital to the good order of our communities.  We entrust them to uphold the law...they must be held to a higher standard....if that trust is violated by law enforcement, they should be stripped of their authority.  19 Killings in a year and a half seems a bit excessive.

Hi Lloyd,

I hear this all the time on the news. What's going on in Albq.?

Seems nearly every night I hear about a "officer involved shooting". Could it be the police chief not doing his job?

Inquireing minds want to know.

Best Clint McKie

Good Evening C Lloyd, it is a sad aspect of Albuquerque at this time.  With support from the citizens the problem will be resolved, it will take time.
