QR Codes For Pets?

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Watson Realty

As I sat in the car dealership yesterday waiting for my latest repair to be completed ( another long story) I was watching CNN and saw something that I thought was just amazing. As a Realtor in St.Augustine , Florida, I have used QR codes for sometime to advertise Real Estate for sale in St.Augustine. They are a part of our mainstream advertising of homes for sale in Saint Augustine and other areas. On the TV, however, I saw a company that is using QR codes for dog and cat collars. The Scrufftag collar has an engraved QR code and a profile web page that allows the owner to keep up to date information about their pet without ever changing ID tags. If someone finds your pet . they can scan the QR code with their smartphone . They instantly will have the pets name, your contact information, as well as current health and vacine information. The collars average approximately $29 and come in various color and styles. I just love the way that technology has made our lives easier and this Dog and cat tag offers a safe and effective way to keep your pets safe.

My Scottie was micro-chipped at the pet store before she ever came home with me 6 years ago, but I hadn't heard of QR codes for pets.

I have heard of microchipping, but not qr codes on collars. That is really cool. The benefit of microchipping is that it won't get taken off or lost like the collar might.  If animals are microchipped they have to be taken some place to have the chip read. With the animal wearing a qr code, it is evident they are packing info about themselves and almost everyone either has or knows someone who has a smart phone.

I know, I thought this was a terrific idea and very cost effective for those pet owners that might not be able to afford micro-chipping.
