The Buddy Holly Center presents a new exhibition, Taking Aim: Unforgettable Rock ’n’ Roll Photographs Selected by Graham Nash. This dynamic exhibition, organized by Experience Music Project/Science Fiction Museum (EMP/SFM), showcases some of the most memorable photography in the history of popular music: iconic performance shots of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Nirvana will be displayed alongside portraits of Johnny Cash and Bo Diddley, as well as intimate shots of Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Yoko Ono.


The exhibition will be on display at the Buddy Holly Center from June 28 - September 11, 2011.

The Bridge of Lubbock will host its second annual Harvest Shindig fundraiser from 6-9 pm at the American Wind Power Center.�The Bridge is a ministry for kids in East Lubbock.


The Harvest Shindig is a family affair with an all you can eat barbecue buffet, photo booth, arts and crafts, checkers, a bounce house and a silent homemade pie auction. The evening will also include a performance by six-time Grammy nominated artist, Stefani Montiel

Buddy! The Buddy Holly Story

"Always, Patsy Cline" is more than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically in a plane crash in 1963. The show is based on a true story about Cline’s (Amber Pennington) friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger (Jane Prince Jones), who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. The show’s title was inspired by Cline’s letters to Seger, which were consistently signed "Love Always, Patsy Cline"

The Maize at At’l Do Farms

Fall is here and the Simpson family has created a new labyrinth that will challenge any maize goer! Come test your skills in the 12 acre cornfield full of twists and turns. This year’s design is a tribute to Buddy Holly. The Maize will give visitors the chance to see this startling creation and is also the perfect place to come pick your pumpkins for fall with a Hayride to Pumpkin Hollow. Addition to the maize, you will also find roasted corn, campfires, BBQ, a rock wall, Corn Cannon, Cow Train, Hayrides, concessions and tent area.

8th Annual South Plains Balloon Roundup

Southwest Regional Hot Air Balloon Club is hosting a hot air balloon launch free to the public Saturday, September 10th and Sunday, September 11th.

Apple Butter Festival
September 10-11 2011
On September 10th & 11th, Apple Country Orchards and Metropolitan Lubbock Rotary Club will host the 16th Annual Apple Butter Festival, from 10am-5pm. The festival offers a fun-filled weekend for the whole family.

The festival features activities and entertainment for all ages. Live bluegrass, country and gospel music will be offered both days. Performers include Paul Davidson, Joe Gillis, Kim Townsend and more.

Children will enjoy the petting zoo and miniature horses, lots of children’s crafts and activities and face painting. Children and adults can relax and enjoy hayrides through the apple trees, a visit with Johnny Appleseed, a Space Slide for the kids, craft booths in the orchard and lots of apple picking.

A benefit BBQ lunch with beverage will be offered all day for $5. Fresh apple turnovers and Bluebell ice cream are $2.

All these events and more will take place at Apple Country Orchards, located 4 miles east of Idalou on Highway 62/82, just 15 minutes from Lubbock. Admission is only $3 per person, and children under 6 can enter for free.

All proceeds from festival activities benefit the South Plains Food Bank Rotary Apple Orchard, Meals on Wheels, and other charities. Festival sponsors include United Supermarkets, Mayfield Paper Co, Blue Bell, River Smith, Mt Blanco Sales and Goodart Candy.

Community Wide Family Event in Remembrance of September 11
September 11th 2011

September 11, 2011 marks the 10-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country. These attacks shook our country yet in the same breath illuminated the heroic sacrifice of our first responders. Trinity Church is hosting a service in the United Spirit Arena to remember those fallen during the attacks and to celebrate and honor the heroic first responders in the Lubbock Community. Additional thanks will go to our entire Medical community and all Branches of our Military personnel. This service will celebrate those men and women who go to work every day with the attitude of service and sacrifice. Join us as we honor our local first responders at 10am in the United Spirit Arena.


Also, Trinity Church will host a Community Wide Family Event to honor and bring awareness to our first responders. This event will take place on our Main Campus from 5:30-8pm. The evening will include local bands, inflatables, games, food and demonstrations from our first responders.
