Rockland County NY: Ramapo: Suffern NY: Dog Cat Animal Pet Rescue Adoption Shelters Kennels Parks Events Shows: I love animals: I love Mikey my mixed breed: Animal Shelters

I am an animal lover and I have enjoyed raising many dogs.  I have found that bringing home dogs from animal shelters gives me particular pleasure.

It is such a blessing to be able to rescue an animal.  I have had so much pleasure caring for and loving these rescued pets.  What love they give back!

Each time I have brought a dog home, I felt I saved him or her from a terrible fate.  I hope many of you will want to do this too.

Here are the names of some of the animal shelters in and around Rockland County, NY, where you can rescue dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals.

Many years ago, I visited Pets Alive, in Middletown, NY and I admire their work.  The woman who owns this animal shelter interviews people to be sure they will make good pet owners.  You can reach Pets Alive, by calling 845-386-9738.

I brought my wonderful dog Mikey home from North Shore Animal League of America, which is in Long Island,NY.  I was very impressed with the facility.  You can reach the shelter at 516-883-7575.

Here's Mikey, snuggling with my daughter Dana.

Mikey also loves cozying up with my husband, Ed.

Our son Glen gave Mikey his name.  He and Mikey share a special bond.

Does my smile and Mikey's smile say it all?

I visited Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, Inc. when I was looking for a dog, and I liked them, too.  Their number is 201-337-5180.

There are two animal shelters in Rockland County, NY.

Hudson Valley Humane Society can be reached at 845-354-3124.

Hi-Tor Animal Care Center can be reached at 845-354-7900.

I am fond of Hi-Tor Animal Care Center because they have a group of people who take the cats, dogs, and rabbits on outings to nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.  This is good for the animals and good for the people who are longing to snuggle with a loving animal.

I belonged to this group for a while and I got great pleasure seeing people smile and show utter joy as I put a dog or cat or rabbit in their lap.  I saw this same happiness when we brought the pets to various group homes.  Nothing seems to make people happier than to hug and cuddle a warm, snuggly animal!  This is pet therapy at its best!!

I hope you have enjoyed this article.

Ellen, Mikey looks like he's got lots of fans in your family.  Can just one dog handle all that love and cuddling?  Maybe it's time for another one.

Leah, Thanks for reading my personal blog.  I was getting tired of all the real estate blogs and decided to branch out a bit.  I realized my love for dogs was one topic that would be fun to write about.  I just found a lump  on Mikey and I am a little hysterical.  I will be going to the vet shortly.  I would love another dog, but my husband feels one at a time is enough these days.  Do you have any pets?
