The Mission - Keep Lean, Mean Marines Smiling

One of the members of the West Springfield Rotary Club has a son in the USMC serving in Afghanistan. When he mentioned at one of our club meetings his son advised him our troops needed "supplies" we went to work to solve the problem.

At a meeting we packed 19 boxes weighing 240 pounds - this was all the assorted snacks, candy, food, books and magazines they requested. I wrote a post about the effort - We’re A Supplier To The Marine Corps

Rotarians Packing Boxes

They got 'em and sent us lots of pictures opening the boxes. By the looks on their faces I have no doubt we can say with certainty

"Mission Accomplished"

Thank you for your service to those that serve. I have no doubt those smiles from the Marines receiving things we take for granted everyday are a combination of excitement, appreciation, and gratitude. Their way of life makes them appreciative of a lot of things not even noticed by others.

Karen,

What an outstanding way to give back to the community. As someone who has served overseas in the past, there is nothing better than getting a package from home. It shows on their faces.

Great post Karen, I have been involved in several "box" missions, and they are fabulous.  The troops deserve all of the support we can provide.  Have a wonderful weekend!

Great post Karen, the troops deserve all of our support. So often we as Americans take their service for granted.

Karen--Don't you just love the feedback you get from the service men & women! We adopted a few "soldier's angels" and sent packages over. We did receive one thank you note from one soldier for toys/treats he requested to hand out to the children in the area. For the others we received the best thank yous...It came from the program administer when the soldiers were sent home safe and sound to their families! Great photos of the work and the recipients!

Teri  You only have to try it once and you are bitten by the "bug"  I can hardly wait for our next "customer."  They are so appreciative of the fact those of us back home remember them.  It really is a very easy way to say, "Thank you for your service."

Karen-There is nothing like a box from home when you are forward deployed, away from civilian friends and family. I know the troops appreciated the effort, as you can see in the last photo from the wide-eyed Marine.
